The key stat in this group is the last two. Really concerned in cold weather our ability protect the football.

SMU vs. Clemson: 2024 Stats Comparison

SMU CLEMSON
Off. Points per Game (Rank) 39.2 (5) 35.7 (14)
Def. Points per Game (Rank) 19.8 (19) 21.6 (36)
Turnovers Allowed (Rank) 19 (86) 9 (12)
Turnovers Forced (Rank) 21 (22) 23 (11)

Our defense has done a spectacular job protecting the end zone after turnovers. The pressure to continue that in a key game will be high. Best the O protect the ball and take that pressure of the D.

Any team that COUNTS ON turnovers to win is not in a good position. Also, basically a third of our turnovers came in one game. Not sure what happened with Clemson, but if 10 turnovers takes you from 12 to 86, then I think the difference is a lot smaller than it looks.

Also, another 3 of our turnovers came in our one loss (we also took the ball away 3 times in that game, so net 0). But if start with our 19 turnovers and you take away the Duke game (which we turned the ball over 6 times and still won) and our one loss, we have turned the ball over 7 times in 10 wins. Nothing to get too excited about.

Clemson won the TO battle vs SC, and it didn't seem to help.
