Brashard Smith named second-team All-America by AFCA

WACO, Texas (AFCA/SMU) – SMU running back Brashard Smith has been tabbed as a Second Team AFCA FBS Coaches All-American for all-purpose, the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) announced on Friday.

In his lone season on the Hilltop, Smith has racked up a total of 1,814 all-purpose yards, just 29 shy of the SMU record set by Arthur Whittington in 1976.

On the ground, the Richmond Heights, Florida, native is just the 12th 1,000-yard rusher in program history. After eclipsing the milestone during the game against Boston College, the senior has climbed to 1,270 rushing yards with 14 scores entering the Mustangs' opening round playoff matchup.

Smith has also been a weapon receiving the ball, collecting 35 receptions for 303 yards and four scores. He is one of two players nationally to have over 1,200 yards rushing along with 303 yards receiving.

In addition, he has 243 yards returning kickoffs this season, making him the only player nationally with 1,200-plus rushing yards, 300-plus receiving yards and 200-plus kickoff return yards.

He currently ranks eighth nationally in all-purpose yards per game with 139.54, 11th in total touchdowns with 18 and 15th in total points scored at 112.

This marks another accolade for Smith, previously being named a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award and to the First Team All-ACC to recognize his consistent success throughout the season.

The 11th-seeded Mustangs are set to make their College Football Playoff debut next Saturday, December 21, at 11 AM CT. SMU will face Penn State on the road at Beaver Stadium, and the game will air on TNT in addition to streaming on MAX.

Well-deserved! Playing defense when he's on the field has to be scary.
