Harrisburg - Friday

Postby D » Tue Dec 17, 2024 8:29 pm

Anyone else staying in Harrisburg Friday night and planning to watch games and drink some beverages? I was thinking of going to one of the sports bars downtown near the Hilton, but wanted to see if any other fans were planning to do anything or there was anything formal planned. There are some decent bars/restaurants around that area, so thought we could find a central meeting point.

There are several places to eat around there. If you want bigger restaurants and bars (not fancy) there’s also Dockside Willies, Tequilla Willies, and Duke’s Riverside all just across the river. They are literally right next to each other on the Susquehanna river facing the city. The outdoor decks will be closed for winter but still good places to eat. You could drive over or just walk over the Market St bridge which is very near the hotel.

If anyone is coming into town earlier and wants some sightseeing locations like Hershey, Gettysburg, Lancaster/ Amish country, or even Philly and DC just let me know.

It’s about 1.5 hrs to State College from Harrisburg on a normal day. It’s a nice drive with some good scenery, even in winter. ;) On game day it’s the main route into State College for south central PA (Harrisburg, Lancaster, York) and for Philly and its burbs. Traffic can get really heavy as you head into the mountains. Leave very early (6-7am or so) to zip up to the noon game rather than sit in traffic.

When you’re on campus, the Bryce Jordan Center (bball arena) is across the street from Beaver Stadium and is open. You can get some food around there, sit in the arena in some heat, and have access to bathrooms.
