Hostile Atmosphere?

Starting to think that we are going to see a noticable amount of Empty Seats in Beaver Stadium on Saturday. I was looking at listings and I'm shocked at both the total number available as well as how cheap they are. Additionally I'm seeing whole rows that are listed which indicates to me that a large amount of the listings were ticket brokers that snatched them up and will likely be unable to last minute fill them by giving tickets away. Hoping this takes away a hge amount of crowd noise.

So instead of 106,000 there might only be 95-100,000? Still the largest crowd our guys have ever played in front of and it sounds like they are pretty excited about playing in that atmosphere.

Again there is no indication at all that they will ahve 100k there. More like 70k based on the amount of tickets I'm seeing available across the major secondary brokers.

Their coach did issue a plea for people to come out and fill the stadium in one of his interviews so it appears he's aware tickets aren't in the high demand they would be with students still in town

Also I heard somewhere that PSU has never played a game this late in the year at that stadium. So the players and fans may not be as "used to" this kind of cold weather as we might think.

I've wondered the same thing Highlander. The bottom line is that Penn State doesn't have any more experience selling out late December home games in freezing cold weather than SMU does.

I don't see a chance this is sold out judging by the number of seats on seatgeek. No chance.

I decided to look up the weather from the dumb Armed Forces Bowl where we hosted, and lost to, and "honored with our uniforms," Army. It was on December 30, which can be cold in Dallas of course; it was 68 at kickoff though, lol.

I know a die hard Penn State alum/colleague who lives in PA and goes to ALL home games. Drives two hours with an RV and tail gates. Connected with him to chat about the game assuming he'd go for sure as their first CFP home game. Come to find out he has no interest going...too cold. Apparently wasn't a hard decision for him either. Shocking.

I’d imagine a big chunk of the students are gone too. Graduation is that day for the ones on campus as well.

Wait, so graduation is the SAME DAY as a hugely important football game at a university that specializes in football???

Article I posted above says they moved graduation to Sunday but it still impacted available lodging

According to Weather.com, the temperature at Kickoff will be 25 degrees with a wind chill factor of 12 degrees.
In Chicago, we would not be wearing our shorts.
