Robert A Barnes was a member of Ron Meyers' first recruiting class. He was a guard and deep snapper. He played from 1976 to 1980 and went from Coach Meyer's first year to the first ranked year.

He was the best deep snapper I ever saw. He played in the USFL after college then held a variety of jobs.

He was a gentle giant that always had a smile and happy, easy going disposition. He was optimistic when pessimistic was the only option. He was complimentary when nobody else noticed. He was a wonder, kind, thoughtful person.

He was a rare four year letterman which is a testament to his athletic abilities.
