TTU alum and TTU major booster Cody Campbell expected to co-chair with Nick Saban the Presidential commission on CFB.

The ACC will not be adding Tortilla U.

Sand Aggies...Bobby Leach...
On a positive note, at least the travel cost would be less. Beyond that, it's Lubbock. Every girl has grit in her teeth.

Basketball and northeastern thinking have already ruined the ACC since its founding. Now all thinking must be about improving its football wealth and power. Or else just agree that the ACC is not meant to be in the Top Tier of CFB and again go basketball-first and second and third.
Texas Tech has a good deal of what the ACC needs
much more of: football-first athletics department that was always that way; very rich donors who will donate HUGE bucks for football; large state university; located in a state that always produces a HUGE amount of football talent; the TV market In which the largest number of its alums live (DFW) may be the most important TV market for football in the country.
Yes, the ACC needs Texas Tech to try to compete head to head with the SEC and BT just like it needs to drop Wake and perhaps a couple others.

What is your evidence that I’m doing “[b]asketball” or “northeastern” thinking, pal? I’m a fifth-generation Texan and I’m here as an SMU fan. And for the record, Tech basketball isn’t bad.
But anyway, lots of schools have a similar profile to what you describe without being in the hard-to-reach armpit that is Lubbock. Tech isn’t a flagship school and it’s not even the land-grant school. It is not and won’t be a candidate while there’s any chance of prying any of the four actually attractive and flagship schools (sorry, WVU) out of the Big 12.

I don’t have any knowledge of any of this but seems to me that tech would be one of the last candidates I would think the ACC would want. If it’s a function of having the ability to choose, tech would be at the bottom of my list. If it’s a function of what may be doable, maybe that’s why it’s an option, if at all. However, there are so many other options that to me are much more interesting and also fit the profile of the ACC better.

100% agreed. If out of expediency, well, hello, Louisville-on-the-Upper-Brazos. Otherwise? Hell no.

What are the 4 attractive flagship schools in the B12 that we should be going after? I don't see any of them that are on par with (historically) FSU, Clemson and Miami for football and Duke, UNC, and some others (again, historically speaking) for basketball. Baylor, Tech, and UH have had good basketball teams the last few years. But I would not call them blue-chip.
B12 has several decent schools, but I am having trouble picking 4 "flagship" schools.

Pretty sure he's referring to Utah, Colorado, AZ State and AZ if the ACC wants to expand and become the "All Coasts Conference"

Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, and Utah, but otherwise yes.

ah hell I forgot about Kansas. Not to buttress Graceland's argument, but that would be a hell of a basketball conference!

Another conference realignment threat, another kitten died. Yeah there are better choices in the Big XII. Utah is rumored to want out. They liked the prestige of being with Stanford and Cal and they don't particularly like being in the same conference as BYU. AU, ASU are reportedly not happy as well, but they do cash the checks. Colorado is just no. They are still mediocre at best even with Deon in charge. Kansas would be a good addition, but they probably can't leave without KSU (which does have a good football program). A few major defections and the Big XII is toast. I'd take UH over TT simply because they are in an urban area and have a good hoops program (although their fans are pretty awful).

Selfishly, simply from a travel perspective, all of those sound preferable to Lubbock.

Texas Tech would be at the bottom in academics by a wide margin. They are very close to being an open admission school. They used to say that you could tell if a Tech student had been on a date because there would be tobacco juice stains running down the passenger door of his pickup truck.
