He will be 40 on his next birthday. WOW what a long successful run.
Proud to call him a Mustang!

Class act. As I recall he's from like Australia. So, maybe he'll get a TV gig explaining American football to the Aussies.

SMU has had a few Australian punters (Sackville, Bujcevski, Pearson), but Morstead is from Pearland, Texas — outside of Houston

Jets cut ties with both their veteran punter and kicker but Morstead can obviously still perform as he ranked in the upper half of NFL punters last year. I read where he was the 11th highest paid punter last year and his contract called for him to make considerably more in 2025 so looks like a salary dump by the Jets. Will be interesting to see whether he still wants to play and whether anyone pursues him

Morehead always was a fitness maniac. I assume he's capable of playing longer, if he and his family decide that's what they want to do.

It's weird to say about a punter, but he is one of SMU's all-time greats.

His mom is English and he spent a lot of time in her hometown in Lincolnshire. In fact, the Times-Picayune says he first learned to punt in England:

Talked to Thomas's uncle and he said it was somewhat of a no brainer. Jets let go the head coach and special teams coach. Both ended up with SF. And guess who was available to punt? Glad for Thomas. Wish he returned to NOLA with the Saints though.

From si.com:

"The 39-year-old Morstead is going into his 17th NFL season and one reason he's been able to stick around so long is because of his consistency," writes CBS Sports' John Breech. "In 2024, Morstead had a gross punting average of 47.2 yards per kick, which ranked 16th overall in the NFL. Although he didn't crack the top 10 in 2024, Morstead has ranked in the top 10 for yards per punt in 10 of his 16 seasons. Morstead's net punting average in 2024 was 40.7 yards, which was slightly below his career average of 41.5.

"In 2023, Morstead pinned opposing teams inside their own 20 a total of 36 times, which was second-most in the NFL. If he can replicate that number in San Francisco, the 49ers will likely be thrilled."
