If that's true, then recruiting a QB next year becomes a high priority. I still think Phillips is going to be th man around here for the next 3 years. Meeks may have realized that as well.

Actually I think Eckert will be the man for the next couple of years and Phillips after that ----maybe....

Hate to see Meeks leave. He would have eventually played. He won't be the only one to transfer before fall practice starts.

Meaning what? Do you know something or just guessing?

Know absolutely nothing. Just guessing based on ususal attrition on college teams.
Re Meeks-I personally thought he looked pretty good in the Spring Game. He would have played eventually if he had stuck it out.

I talked to Meeks the other day and he gave me the idea that it wasnt playing time and that he was as close to the team and other QB's as anyone, but there have been some behind the scene things that we dont have a clue about. but that is just what i got from the conversation. best of luck to meeks

Man, I'm sorry to hear this. With Phillips and Eckert and Romo -- and whoever else arrives in the future -- I don't know if Ricky Joe would have been able to climb to the top of the depth chart to get on the field or not. But I had the opportunity to meet him once, and he seems like a terrific guy. Whether or not he ever stepped foot on the field, I liked him. I hope he finds great success, whatever he does, whether it's at SMU or elsewhere.
I wonder how this will affect recruiting in East Texas? He was thought to be something of a star out there, and if he feels -- right or wrong -- that he got a raw deal, could the grapevine sully the SMU name out there? Hopefully Jerry Bennett's connections out there will prevent the need for any spin control. There's too much talent out there to lose that area as a recruiting source.

Judging by history, this greatly increase his odds of appearing in the NFL in a few years.

I am not sure about the pro football thing, but, Meeks did show great improvement over the spring. With Phillips inability to throw the ball, that will leave most of the quarterbacking duty to Eckart after the first 4 games.

Dan marino would look like crap after trying to pass against the first three games we are going to play - Nobody should judge Phillips until well into the season - I say - Run Chris Run -. I think no matter what they say - If Webb is coming in then the crowd at QB is what caused this to happen.

how predictable would that be, "run chris run?" obviously you don't have faith in SMU, cause if you were you would expect the Mustangs to be prepared for the teams on their schedule. SMU has the same chance as any school out there of recruiting and coaching these kids to play with anyone. seems to me they are being very picky about who they bring in. i've seen some very good players turned away cause smu said they couldn't play there. to me, this is no time to be picky. Dallas Washington from ATL. TX. (DB,RB,AND RET. 4 x state qualifier in track) wanted to come to smu but THE Man said they couldn't use him. He's going to Arkansas on a full ride. A d-lineman from a 4a in east texas(Def. mvp of the district-6'3" 260 and could play) smu said he was too short? he is going elsewhere on a full ride. guys like this can't be passed up this early in the rebuilding process. so you say chris can't throw, fine find someone who can and let's get this thing going. and come on Dan Marino could play against tech and osu. don't you think. surely, he made it in the league for a long time. maybe it's just me that thinks this.

Judging from most of the posts I read here the name of this site should be PHILLIPSFANS.COM----
