Post subject: Observations from Rams Minicamp

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Went out to Rams Park today.

Just a few observations for whatever it's worth, and also recognizing the fact that these are guys running around in shorts, so the evaluations only amount to so much:

* Bulger still cannot throw the deep ball. He hit one, but misfired several times. Keeps floating the ball out there. keeps coming up short.

* Chandler looks terrific. I kid you not. His arm is still there. He has such a nice touch. His deep balls were accurate. He's never been surrounded by this kind of talent on offense. Yes, he QBed the Falcons to the Super Bowl. But that was Jamal Anderson's show.

* Smoker was nervous being around the veterans. You could see it. He didn't get many reps as Martz defers to the veterans. But he sailed a couple badly and seemed skittish.

* OK, let the hype begin, and I will plead guilty to being a part of it....but this kid, Anthony Hargrove, the DE drafted in the 3rd round....the kid is a beast. A freak. As impressive, physically, as advertised. And he was just racing by people trying to block him. Coaches tell me he's absolutely relentless in his attitude, too.

* Jimmy Kennedy is clearly in better shape, and clearly more explosive off the ball.

* The two second-year WRs, Curtis and McDonald, were flying around, catching everything. This is a remarkable collection of receivers. Bruce, Holt, Looker, Furrey, Curtis, McDonald. And this Michael Coleman is an NFL-caliber WR, too.

* Coaches are excited about the four young corners. (Fisher and Butler we know about). But the 2nd-year guys, Groce and Garrett ... comment was made to me that they looked like men now, aware of what they were doing, instead of scrambling around like disoriented rookies. :D
Cheers,
Bernie

Didn't the Rams lose a CB to free agency? I know Jeremetrius Butler flirted for a while with the Redskins before re-signing with the Rams, but I thought they lost another. Couldn't hurt if the secondary is a little less crowded. Big year for KG!

Garrett's a great guy. I got to work with him at a bank during the summer. I wish him the best.

Looks like Kevin may be the starting cornerback for St. Louis since the starter, Travis Fisher, broke his arm last night. Sounds like he played well against K.C.:

Good story. I found it a little odd that Coach Martz thought DeJuan Groce had better background, but then KG only got one year, I think, under Coach Bennett and Coach Gush. Either way, it sounds like he's really got his coach's respect.
Good luck, KG!
