In the weekly team digests that the Sporting News runs each week, the magazine has been including a breakdown of each team at a given position. This week, it's the cornerbacks, and three SMU alums were mentioned:

Arizona Cardinals
.... Beyond that, there are huge questions. Coby Rhinehart has been a part-time starter in the past, but injuries have limited his offseason work....

Dallas Cowboys
.... Donald Mitchell is a classic third cornerback. He plays almost exclusively in the slot and never has beeen a starter on the outside.

St. Louis Rams
.... Kevin Garrett and DeJuan Groce are the top backups. Garrett has elite speed and has flashed instincts that excite the coaches....

It's great to see that those guys are viewed (by folks other than PonyFans, who are a bit biased, of course) as legitimate players. Each is an important player on his team. Hopefully Jonas Rutledge will join that fraternity of NFL cornerbacks from SMU this season.

Rhinehart had a shoulder scoped in the offseason. I think he's doing conditioning work, but not hitting. Yet.

Has anyone heard an update on how Jonas is doing in Tennessee?
