Hats off to former Texas A&M center Seth McKinney, who absolutely ripped Ricky Williams (a Longhorn, for those who have been hiding on another planet). McKinney said Williams' decision is "an act of selfishness. If he'd done this at the end of the season, I guess that'd be alright. But to do this right before training camp, that's the move of a quitter."

Nice stuff. There are reports from Ricky's agent that suggest he might do a quick about-face and return. Anyone else want to see how hard McKinney blocks for Ricky if he comes back?

I am not sure why you feel some thoughts of an a$m ex should matter. I have NO love of a$m no matter. As for Williams, why should you make note of a player that at least showed some respect for our tradition. Or have you forgotten that he donned a jersey with Doak's number in honor of the man. As much as I dislike ut, I couldn't help but be impressed. Even Doak gave the guy a thumbs up. Now you are gonna talk smack about him?

If Williams wants to retire, let him. It is their life to lead. Barry Sanders did it, why can't Williams? At least he let loose a true comment about the NFL testing.

I went to high school with his brother, who now plays for the Texans (Steve). But I could care less about Seth.

Seth is out of line. If he actually listened to what Ricky said, maybe he wouldn't say those things.
'Quitter?' It's not like Ricky retired because he felt it was too hard to run, or that he never believed he could win a Superbowl ring. He lost the desire to be in the business. "I'm finally free. I can't remember ever being this happy." On a personal level, how can you not be happy for him? Hey McKinney, maybe if you and your boys could block better then the backs wouldn't have to carry it so much. Or maybe you should go back to A&M, they need you.

agree. last time i looked, this was still a free country and if he wants to quit then that's his right.

i think the guy is a stud and always will be. he's a good guy and a gentlemen. and i for one will remember his fondness for doak walker.

I disagree. It's true that Ricky has the right to quit his job -- and that's what the NFL is -- but to do it right before training camp is wrong. If he wanted to quit -- and reports suggest he knew months ago -- he should have done this before the draft so the Dolphins could try to compensate. I have no love for the Aggies, believe me, but McKinney was right on this time. (And Smoopower, I also knew his brother. Cool guy .... for an Aggie.)

Who gives a rat's arse what this guy thinks? He's a frickin' aggie for goodness sakes. The timing was bad but, if you've ever followed Ricky Williams' career, you will understand that Ricky marched to the beat of his own drum and when he felt it was ready to quit, he did. I know he's a former longhorn but I respect him for being straight up enough to admit he wasn't happy plus I appreciated the fondness he had for our own Doak Walker and how much he appreciated a figure that most talents today probably don't know jack about. Who knows, the guy could change his mind but I doubt it. Out of curiousity, does this mean we should call Jim Brown and Barry Sanders a couple of quitters? I didn't think so.

One of my closest friends played with Ricky at UT. From what I was told, he is a considerate and respectful guy. I think the gesture for Doak was a perfect example of his character. I agree that the timing on this was bad, but Ricky has never been one to care what people think. And I kinda like that about him.

BTW, maybe he will be released by Miami and come back in ‘05 with the ‘boys!

I used to cover UT games for a magazine, and he was a terrific guy. Always thoughtful, never settling for "yes" and "no" answers.

No way Miami gives up his rights. If he changes his mind, they might want to part company with him, but they'll want something for him.

Someone in Miami has already printed and begun selling #34 jerseys with the name "SELLOUT" across the back. And they're selling like hotcakes.
