B-Ball Recruits?Does anyone have any info as to whom we are trying to bring in to join Nyam in our current recruiting class? Any rumors or info that is even remotely factual would be of interest- just haven't heard much.
Nothing new on Rivals. I believe signing date is next Wednesday-can anybody confirm? With a relatively young team and no standout superstar upperclassman I'd like to see Tubbs play for 2008 by getting a standout Division 1A transfer since there doesn't appear to be a difference maker. Of course, the OSU kid would be exactly what we need to complement the Freshmen Inside who should be ready to compete at a much higher level in 2008. Might be a good test for this alledged new transfer policy. Otherwise, I just don't see any differencemakers in 2007 unless Tubbs AND the recruit are keeping their interest in SMU very close to the vest. Of course, during the spring signing period its much more common to wait until after the signing date to get a commitment. In football 99.9% of the players sign on the signing date. Much different in BB.
I'm guessing recruiting is suffering because the Max Williams thing has festered with no resolution. Uncertainty is probably worse than even the penalty of a violation itself. Once again, thanks Max. I realize family is important, and coaches are expendable to you, but way to hurt your alma mater over a sandwich and a little playing time for a freshman who has not earned anything yet.
Still like to hear why Max gave Tubbs the money to start with.
hell, I dunno, maybe he thought he was buying playing time. I'd like to hear the story myself. Most people on the inside seem to think the whole thing is stupid beyond belief.
Do not jump to conclusions about players transferring. Bamba Fall could play almost anywhere. Why would he want to jeopardize sitting a year out when he is an NBA prospect? You do not get better or noticed watching. The rest of the players are not going to get many opportunities elsewhere except for smaller or worse schools (worse than SMU? hard to believe). As a player, I would not walk away from a 20K+ scholarship when a losing coach gets fired. Ask Hopkins about his development under Tubbs. A new coach (assuming it is a "name" coach) will be a good change. The new AD is a fraud if he does not bring in a proven winner for a coach.
Now with the recent firing of Coach Tubbs, it looks as if the SMU basketball program might be going through reconstruction for the next two years.
With emerging freshmen Bamba Fall and Brian Morris, SMU basketball was coming out of the gutter but it now appears as if both, Fall and Morris, might not be coming back to the hiltop next semester. The two big man hoop stars have been battling both injury and this outrageous Tubbs investigation. And with much scrutiny, it might be as if Morris and Fall out did their stays at SMU. But there is still a great possibilty that both will be coming back next year though. A new coach in the works might be more disasterous for this young team. The hot man next year will be Devon Pearson, along with Derek Roberts and the DEZ MAN. SMU has still yet to land a top recruit. And it seems as if that might not happen anytime soon until a new head coach is chosen.
Bamba didn't want to redshirt this year -- will he really want to sit out a year? If he stays here, he can be the face of the program, the guy who is the drawing card for recruits and fans alike. I know he was quoted in the DMN saying he "has to sleep on it." Hopefully, he and Morris will realize they can be the cornerstones of the program. If they stay, they will be remembered and revered long after they graduate.
jk, thats an interesting thought. I dont know what the timing of Evans leaving was. However, I dont think Odufuwa chose ASU just for the coach. He liked Tubbs fine I think. Plus he would have to sit out a year, I think, which is always a big issue.
