Charles and the Nike Video

Postby BUS » Sat Jun 17, 2006 10:06 am

Thank you for the video of the Nike camp.

From what I saw we can use Charles.

Question, has he ever wrestled? I ask because it helps linemen learn to change levels as they attack.

Yes, he does. Because the wrestling practices start at his school at the beginning of the year, the football players (starters) generally never go out for the wrestling team, but several including Charles, practice with the team in their spare time. Once the football season ends, Charles works out with the team, but due to a weight limit in their league (270lbs.), he only participates in work outs for "off-season" conditioning reasons. Three of the teammates he works out with (heavyweight class) have gone to the state championships and two of the three made it to the semifinals. They also take wrestling pretty serious at his HS.

BTW, ESPN just released their initial recruiting report. Charles was one of only 7 DT in the Western U.S. to get a rating this early (67), and is currently 59th of the 450 DT's in the entire U.S. to be listed by ESPN Insider. Since this rating was apparently based on his Rivals and Scout footage (which is old and included some Soph footage) it's probable that his rating will bump up into the 70's once the season starts. For what it's worth, Mike Wilcoxon who recently was offered and verbal'd to Texas, also received a 67 rating.

I like the answer about wrestling. I would like to ask how Charles does against his wrestling team mates?

I love the sport but I wrestled at 240 and went up against 360 and 380 at times. I guess the new rule is ok but maybe they need a group at 220 and then go unlimited.

Gee, I hope SMU puts an offer on the table. I do not see anything I do not like about Charles.

Come by the Boulevard at a game and meet me at the BUS stop. Right in front of the Meadows art building - not the museum.
