Wow...We need to offer this kid. His size is amazing, he obviously has some talent. He truly could probably move A FEW offensive linemen off of the line. We need gamebreakers like this.
Despite the jokes otherwise, I trust Bennet and his staff's ability to scout a player more than any of us on this site.
If they aren't ready to offer Charles a scholarship, then there must be a reason. Even if we don't agree with it.
It might be that they really like the guy, and are simply evaluating him against other recruits. SMU traditionally extends few early offers. This guy sure sounds impressive, though. Based on what's been written here, I'd love to see him at SMU.
Stallion posted...
...and...
Okay, Stallion. You hooked me. "Papa Beast" speaketh! I've been a little busy lately with camps, practices, and work, and generally refrain from responding to every question or remark on this thread, but to clarify Stallion's statement, the exact quote in the Rivals article was: "...Brallier iterated that he does not have a favorite school at this point but that how many offers he gets and when he gets them will have an effect on when he ultimately decides. "A favorite, not really," said Brallier. "I have probably four that are tied in Washington, Oklahoma State, Idaho, and probably Utah. I'd say Washington (is recruiting me the hardest). I get a letter from them just about every other day."" Taken out of context, the interviewer's question was actually a two part question (according to The 'Big Ol' Beast'), "Of the schools you've been talking to, which is your favorite school and which one's have been recruiting you the most?" The quoted response in the article was accurate and correct. He does not have a single "favorite" school. And over the preceding month, Washington, Oklahoma State, Idaho and Utah are the schools who have been talking to him and recruiting him the most. To put this issue to rest... SMU is ABSOLUTELY near the top of Charles's list, definitely in the top 4 schools he would love to play for and attend, and has been that way since his visit in April. And that is directly from The "Big Ol' Beast's" mouth; uttered on Saturday, June 24th, around 11am, just before realizing the "cool", new 3" dual exhaust he's putting on his Dodge truck was probably not going to be considered "cool" by our local law enforcement. Regarding these school "lists", we have found that some of these ranking services have information in the player's profiles that are not always in agreement with the prospect's true or most recent records or reflective of their real intentions. Recently, one of the services modified Charles' list of schools without discussing it with him. He learned about it when a coach from one of the "omitted" schools brought up the fact they were no longer listed on his "favorites" list by the service. He immediately emailed the service, but from experience, we've found that updating the records often takes weeks, if ever. On yet another service, they initially incorrectly listed his "favorite" schools, and when he emailed them to correct it, they removed all of his school list and to this day (despite several emails to them) have not listed any schools for him. We understand that the recruiting websites have to accurately track ten's of thousands of prospects, all the details, etc...and sometimes mistakes are made, so we usually take what is posted on those services with "a grain of salt", as do most of the coaches we've talked to. FYI, on 06/06, ESPN released their initial college prospect evaluation ratings for Defensive Tackles, and Charles was one of only 7 in the west and 65 DT's nationally to receive a D1 "Solid Prospect" rating or higher (his rating was a "67"). Since they apparently based evaluation on his "old" soph/junior film (they had never contacted Charles and he did not even know they were evaluating him), which is not even close to his current performance level, we believe that when the evaluations are updated this fall, he should easily bump up into the mid-70's or higher. To put this into context, early offer/commits, Mike Wilcoxon who just verbal'd to Texas was given a 67, Tyrrell Higgins-verbal'd to OSU-71, Patrick Dorsey - 70, and Zach Skelton - 65. As a note to all the Ponyfans who have posted comments about Charles, I greatly appreciate the support you've shown, and do sincerely hope to someday join all the other Ponyfans at Ford Stadium to watch the Mustangs...as the proud parent of one of their players. Go Mustangs! Travelinman
Coach Bennett, if you read this board, be sending this kid letters every day. In the dead periods, text him (I believe I read that that is still legal!). Get this kid an offer! Any team that is going to go to bowl games needs a good defensive line, and this kid can help us out with it!
Charles should have some new Rivals video coming out soon from his senior year. His coach has put a complete lockdown on recruiting as the team is making a drive for the playoffs (currently 8-1, #17 in NO Cal).
From what I can find, he has consistently been seeing double, triple and quadruple coverage and continues to blow through into the backfield. Honestly, if we want to continue to shut down the running game of opponents, this is the type of kid we need. Someone to occupy multiple blockers and let his teammates get after the ball. He won't be making any officials until after the season though has decided to take one to SMU if we offer. Come on PB get after this one and lets get that middle tied down for the next four years.
