Women's hoops signs two to national letters-of-intent
Haley Day, LaShandra Hill newest Mustangs
Nov. 8, 2006
DALLAS (SMU) - Haley Day (Rockwall, Texas) and LaShandra Hill (Ft. Worth, Texas) have signed national letters-of-intent to attend SMU and will begin play with the women's basketball team in fall, 2007, as announced Wednesday by SMU head coach Rhonda Rompola.
Day, a 5-10 forward, attends Rockwall High School, where she averaged 16.2 points per game last season (19.7 ppg in district play). She hauled in 8.6 rebounds per game (9.0 per game in district play). She was a member of the state tournament 5A All-Tournament team in 2006 and was named District MVP (12-5A) as well. Day is a 2006 TABC All-State selection and a two-time TGCA All-State selection. Her high school team has competed in the state tournament all three years and reached the state finals in 2006, losing to Plano West in the championship game. Day is the daughter of Jimmy and Lisa Day.
Hill, a 5-6 point guard, attends Dunbar High School, where she earned a number of honors during her career. As a junior, Hill was a first-team All-State, All-Region, and All-District selection. Named the Offensive Player of the Year, Hill averaged 16 points, 4.5 assists, and 3.5 steals per game while shooting over 51% from three-point range. She also earned USA Today Player of the Week honors as well as first team All-Area team honors by the Fort Worth Star-Telegram. As a sophomore, Hill earned first-team All-District, All-Region and All-State honors as a member of the state championship team. She is the daughter of Perrian and Brenda Hill.

Sounds like 2 more great pickups for Rhonda. This year we only have one senior, and she is redshirting, so we should be extremely experienced and deep next year.

Had a chance to talk with Rhonda before the UAB game. She was really excited. Understand how big of a signing that is with the girl from FW Dunbar. Not only is she going to the PG, this is the kind of player TCU has gotten.
This is where the MWC is hurting the Frogs whether they care to admit that or not.

You sound like Andrea Kramer and Chris Mortensen. ("Mike Holmgren told me ....")
Nice work. You should be a reporter, but you'd have to give up your gig as a professional tailgater.

For that, I'd have to have my eyelids surgically lifted. That did sound bad, didn't it?

Saw in the DMN where the other Dunbar guard, DeAndre Brown (5-11, 165 lbs) signed with UTA over offers from SMU, Nebraska, and Houston. She also is considered one of the top 25 recruits by several recruiting services. (They did not specify whether that was State or National in the paper.) Too bad we couldn't have made it a two-fer.
