Walk-on QBLake Highlands QB Daniel Miller will walk on at SMU. Accurate passer and throws a nice deep ball. Kid has been working hard staying in shape and adding muscle and may turn into quite a find.

Vian QB receives award Seth Sloan, Salutatorian of the Vian High School Senior Class, has been inducted into the Oklahoma Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame, Inc. Sloan is one of 11 athletes selected from a state-wide nomination pool of approximately 100 highly-qualified student/athletes. Athletes are nominated by their coaches with a letter of recommendation and application which highlights the athletes' accomplishments on and off the field. This prestigious award boasts of names such as Keith Jackson, Barry Sanders, Steve Owens and Lee Roy Selmon. At the awards ceremony held April 11 at the Oklahoma City Petroleum Club, Sloan was formally recognized and commended for his outstanding accomplishments, receiving a plaque and $1,500 scholarship per year of college. Former OU and NFL player Joe Washington was the keynote speaker for the ceremony. Attending the event with Sloan were his parents, Jody and Paula Sloan, grandparents Charles and Mary Sloan and Vian football coach Brandon Tyler and his wife Lisa. In addition to this Oklahoma award, Sloan has recently been awarded a top Hunt Leadership Scholarship for Southern Methodist University (SMU) in Dallas. He earned the scholarship after submitting an essay with his admissions application to the college. Sloan was selected as one of 50 finalists who interviewed over spring break with the selections committee. Less than half the finalists were awarded this scholarship, which pays for all tuition and fees for all four years that Sloan plans to attend SMU. Sloan is also planning to continue his football career at SMU. "I attended a couple of football camps at SMU and I could really see myself going to college there even if I didn't play football," Sloan said of his college choice. "The coaches have been enthusiastic about my opportunity to be a part of the Mustangs football program.," he said. "When I heard I had definitely won the Hunt Scholarship along with the Oklahoma one, I knew my dream was becoming a reality. My grades are the difference in what made this opportunity to attend the college of my choice. I am excited to start playing football. I figure I have the best of both worlds right now. I plan to get a double major, one in communications (Public Affairs emphasis) and one in Political Science. I appeciate all the support and interest so many have shown me all throughout my school years at Vian. Even though I am moving to another state, good ol' Vian will always be home."
