Interesting.. another kid from this area, Bobby Fenke out of Trinity Christian Academy is looking to transfer from Navy as well.
This Trey Stanton kids sounds great.. Would love to have another 6-10'er on the team. Sounds like he was a late bloomer too.. was 6-3 as a sophmore in HS and can handle the ball pretty well for a big-man. Also mentions he can shoot the tre.. nice weapon. What we obtain too cheap.. we esteem too lightly. It is persistence alone that gives everything its value.
Texas Tech and Gonzaga "are interested in offering him a scholarship." Doesn't say that they have, so maybe it's just what the kid is saying. But if those two schools want to offer him, I'm inclined to think he can play.
Would Coach Doherty REALLY take eight scholarship guys in one year? (Granted, this guy would only have two years of eligibility, if I'm reading that right, so not all eight would be done at the same time, but still ....) "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

He has only played his freshman season. He would then take a redshirt year as a transfer and have 3 years of eligibility remaining unless I am missing something in my quick read.
I think you're right. My bad - read it too fast.
Can you redshirt a transfer year? Doesn't that rule talk about the number of seasons a transferring player can play, not the number of years in which he has eligibility? "What kind of weirdo school are they running over there in Fort Worth?"

You can redshirt a transfer year as long as you have not redshirted yet.
From the Rice Athletics blong in the Houston Chronicle:
Because WTW doesn't have the proper paperwork on his desk, Rice officials are unable to comment on Navy transfer Trey Stanton. But it's a done deal, folks. He will reside at Jones College, wear No. 15, and be eligible for the 2008-09 season, the debut for the House of Tudor. He joins Texas A&M transfer Bryan Beasley as a late, and welcome, addition to the Owls' Class of '07.
