Dallas athlete

Raytron Mayfield is the starting tailback this year at Thomas Jefferson. He's also a sensational athlete who could do very well if he ends up at SMU. He's about 6-feet even, 185 pounds and runs in the mid-4.4s. What makes him exceptional is his versatility. He's played RB, QB, SS, LB and on special teams at T.J. Last year, he was the team's starting quarterback, but when their start running back blew out a knee, he took over and led the team in rushing. (The team uses a run-based offense, so he already had some yards.) Shortly after taking over at RB, he broke his hand - and didn't miss a game. More importantly, he also didn't have a single fumble, despite playing 5 games with a cast on his right hand. To those PonyFans who live in Dallas and like high school football, check out a Thomas Jefferson game. Mayfield is something special.

Raytron is the kind of athlete who can play a lot of positions. Or even play a lot of sports. He's a really good basketball player (probably not good enough to play at SMU though) and he also runs track at Thomas Jefferson. And he wins most of his races.

Just dug up some stats on Mayfield from last year. After starting the season at quarterback, he played seven games at running back. He finished the season with 1,502 rushing yards and 12 rushing touchdowns. He also caught four passes for 84 yards and another score.

This year, he'll be Thomas Jefferson's starting tailback, the same position he's being recruited to play.

So are you saying we are interested in him and he is interested in us?

From what I've heard, a little of both. He's very interested in us, and we're supposedly interested in him, but the main sticking point will be if he can qualify for admission.

Raytron ran for 160 yards and 3 touchdowns Friday as Thomas Jefferson whipped WT White.
