Perfect walk-on candidate

Postby ClassOf81 » Thu Jan 09, 2003 8:53 pm

Jason Wood played DE at Highland Park this year. He's 6'7", 220-225 pounds, and he can run. Very fast and agile. He has really long arms, and was fourth in the state (4A) in the high jump as a junior. This guy has tight end/rush DE written all over him.

Anyone know if Coach Bennett has thought about him? He'd be perfect. If he doesn't pan out, he costs us nothing. But he just might be a real find.

On another HP note, Brent Karrington had shoulder surgery around Christmas time. Want an indication of how tough the guy is? He played on SMU's scout team all year with a bad shoulder - against linemen who usually outweighed him considerably. The shoulder injury occurred when he was a senior at HP. He's one tough SOB. I hear it's going to be close whether he's ready for spring ball, but he'll definitely be ready in the fall.

He is also good friends with Charlie Berry, for whatever thats worth. hard to see either of them as 1-A players, but they would both be team leaders, are smart and will work their ***** off.

6'7" and 225?
Hello Ted Hendricks!
Or maybe The Diesel can slap 30 or 40 pounds on the kid and make him one nasty defensive end!

He's really tall, he's got long arms and he's a high jumper?
Sounds like a kick-blocking machine.

Does anyone know if Wood has scholarship offers anywhere? Or if he can afford SMU?
