The Low Down on Ronald Simmons

Postby Stallion » Fri Jan 10, 2003 7:37 pm

....care to take a Reggie Dupard gamble. Ronald Simmons will not even take the SAT until January 25th and a player can not visit any school until he takes a qualifying test. But he appears to be a smart kid with a 3.5 GPA. Just about all schools have stopped recruiting Simmons because he can not sign a Letter of Intent until he takes the test. Does SMU hold a scholarship for Simmons on the hopes his academics will translate into a passing score? BTW the Rivals story does not mention SMU as one of the schools which WERE recruiting Simmons, but the Lone Star Recruiting Top 100 lists as SMU as in contention. SMU held a scholarship for Reggie Dupard until the last day of the signing period and it paid big dividends. Simmons is the No. 50 Player in Texas.

With the stable of RBs already in place, I'd say it's well worth the risk

I was starting to worry about you, Stallion. You've been kind of quiet today!

Just a minor point, you dont have to have a qualifying score to take an official visit, or to sign a letter of intent. You have to have a posted score. The score can be anything, a 400 SAT or a 3 on the ACT, and you can still take a visit or sign a letter. You just cant accept the scholarship (Grant-In-Aid) until you get a qualifying score.

If he isnt going to take the SAT until the 25th of January, I dont think there's any way the score will be posted by signing day, which I believe is Feb 5th?

Why would we not take him? So we can hold a spot for the 250th best player. If we lost #250 would we be happy with #260 instead? That my friends is a no brainer. Take the kid if you can get him.

No kidding. We need to take a flyer on him. How would it be if he does in fact turn out to be the next Dupard? It's well worth the risk.
