First of all, what is the status of Richuel Massey? Did he visit Texas this weekend? Does he still favor SMU? Does he want to play FB at a top 10 team in the country or be the feature back for a team on the rise?
Second, what is SMU's interest in Joel Armstrong and vice-versa? He seems like a tremoundous athlete. SMU certainly could use more athletes.
Third, does SMU have any interest in JUCO players? It would be a tremendous advantage to have a few JUCO players each recruiting class. It just does not seem realistic though that this will happen with SMU's current academic policies. This must be addressed.
Fourth, do any current Div. 1 transfer players have interest in SMU? I read the recent post about the local player from NW. It seems that SMU should pursue more transfer players than they do.
Thanks for anyone with any answers. Go Stangs.

Massey is in Austin right now, and its too early to tell which way he is leaning. Frankly, I think if they offer him a scholarship, we'll lose him. But the only one who can truly tell you who he favors right now is Richuel.
Schools cant "pursue" transfers, at least not in the way you seem to be suggesting. Its a serious violation for a school to contact a player on scholarship with another school, and attempt to solicit his transfer. The player has to initiate the contact with the school he wants to transfer to, and that school has to report the contact to his original school, etc., etc. After a player has his release from his original school its different, but usually by then a player who wants to transfer already has a pretty good idea of where he wants to go.

also a school can limit its release to certain schools so that they don't have to face the kid in the future and that is what the Texas Football article suggests happened with Derricks. That sometimes can cause some ill will between the coach and the recruit if the recruit wants to go to a school he is not released to. PX is that source about Massey visiting UT reliable or are you relying on the DMN which only says Massey was "scheduled" to visit UT. Newspaper reports are natoriously unreliable and out of date. I've been following HornFans.com closely this morning because that is a great source for inside info on UT. No mention about Massey visiting but there is a report of a "surprise visitor". Several posts say he didn't go to Austin but again its hard to determine whether they are reporting the current facts or the rumor and then denials of the rumor over the last few days. Also Joel Armstrong is down to SMU, TCU and Rice so I would say we got a good shot at this kid. If he wants to play QB he'll probably go to Rice.

there are at least 3 more sources on Horn.Fans.com who claim to have checked and there was no "surprise recruits" visiting UT this weekend just a list of 6 recruits which did not include Massey

When I specifically asked one of our coaches about Richuel on Friday, he told me that he definitely was not visiting Texas this weekend, and that he'd probably be in Dallas on an unofficial visit helping to recruit our other recruits who were on campus for official visits this weekend.

That would be great news, i.e., if Massey and some of our other higher profile recruits were in this weekend to help sell some of the other guys who are considering SMU but have several options. I'm beginning to feel like a little kid at Christmas. Can't wait to see what might come from this weekend. I want some true Frosh who will come right in and compete for playing time!

There were several of our already-committed recruits in town, helping to close the deal with some of their future teammates at SMU. Can't wait to see how well it all paid off.
