This past weekend

Postby PonyPower » Mon Jan 13, 2003 6:48 pm

PerunaPunch and I (mostly PP) found some info on some of the guys who were in town this weekend. A www.PonyFans.com exclusive, of sorts. Much of this was written prior to the guys' senior season:

Kharylake Martin
3-Star
2003 Recruiting Class
Dayton (TX)
Position: Offensive tackle
Height: 6-foot-5
Weight: 345 pounds
40-yard dash: 5.5 seconds
Bio Notes and Stats: "He's a mountain of a man," Dayton coach Jerry Stewart said of Martin. "He's really that big, but he's not fat at all." Martin is a three-year starter at offensive tackle for Dayton.

Joe Sturdivant
3-Star
Lilburn (GA) Parkview
Position: Safety
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 190 pounds
40-yard dash: 4.5 seconds
Bio Notes and Stats: Four-star safety Jeff Francouer was the star at Lilburn (Ga.) Parkview last season, but was he really? Fellow safety Joe Sturdivant might have something to say about that, because the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder is expected to be one of the top players in Georgia for the Class of 2003.

Chris Phillips
3-Star
Dallas (TX) Bishop Lynch
Position: Dual-threat quarterback
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight 215 pounds
40-yard dash 4.6 seconds

Kennard Burley
2-Star
Scurry (TX) Scurry-Rossman
Position: Offensive tackle
Height: 6-foot-4
Weight: 315 pounds
40-yard dash 5.2 seconds

Ricky Joe Meeks
3-Star
Mount Vernon (TX)
Position: Pro-style quarterback
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 210 pounds
40-yard dash 4.7 seconds
Bio Notes and Stats: Meeks, a right-hander, is the son of Mount Vernon coach Dickey Meeks. He passed for 1,717 yards, completing 104 of 191 passes as a junior. Also an all-state selection at punter, averaging 40.7 yards per boot. In his senior season this year, he completed 135-of-242 passes for 2,027 yards, 16 touchdowns and 8 interceptions. He also had 52 carries for 156 yards and three scores, but an early-season knee injury limited his running.

Joel Armstrong
3-Star
Longview (TX)
Position: Dual-threat quarterback
Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 170 pounds
40-yard dash 4.5 seconds
Bio Notes and Stats: Armstrong was chosen as the Preseason Player of the Year for his district as a senior.

Avery Cleveland
3-Star
Austin (TX) LBJ
Position: Outside linebacker
Height 6-foot-3
Weight 205 pounds
40-yard dash 4.55 seconds

Jaymond Cleveland
2-Star
Baytown (TX) Lee
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 5-foot-11
Weight: 170 pounds
40-yard dash 4.5 seconds

Wilrey Fontenot
2-Star
Humble (TX)
Position: Cornerback
Height: 5-foot-9
Weight: 160 pounds
40-yard dash 4.4 seconds
Bio Notes and Stats: In his junior season he had eight receptions for 120 yards and one touchdown as a receiver, and 40 tackles, four tips and three interceptions as a cornerback. "The tips and interceptions are low because opponents didn't throw much to my side this season." He also returned one kick off for a touchdown.

Adam Galbreath
2-star
Spring (TX) Westfield
Position: Wide Receiver
Height: 6-foot-0
Weight: 190 pounds
40-yard dash 4.58 seconds

Courtney Gordon
Not Rated
Gladewater (TX)
Position: Offensive Line, Defensive End
Height: 6-foot-3
Weight: 230
40-yard dash: 4.8 seconds
Bio Notes and Stats: Starting offensive lineman since sophomore year. Also lettered in basketball and track. 2nd Team All district as a sophomore, 1st Team All District and 1st Team All East Texas as a junior. Team Captain, starting right guard and defensive end as a senior. Head Coach Daivd Husmann calls Gordon, “Very physical. Knows where the ball is and gets there quick. Makes good decisions. Has a winning attitude. Plays every position well. Offense has to double-team him on every play. Very coachable.

Darius Ingram
3-Star
Tenaha (TX)
Position: Outside linebacker
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 230 pounds
40-yard dash 4.5 seconds
Bio Notes and Stats: Ingram was his district's most valuable player as a junior and one of the most high-rated linebackers in Texas as a senior.

C.D. Moss
2-Star
Copperas Cove (TX)
Position: Cornerback
Height: 5-foot-10
Weight: 180 pounds
40-yard dash 4.5 seconds

Cory Muse
3-Star
Oklahoma City (OK) Millwood
Position: Outside linebacker
Height: 6-foot-2
Weight: 205 pounds
40-yard dash 4.6 seconds
Bio Notes and Stats: Muse had 22 catches for 377 yards and nine scores as a junior at tight end. But he will more than likely spend his college career on the defensive side of the ball.

I think that's everyone who was in town this past weekend.

It's amazing what you can find out flipping through the pages of the Radisson guest register...

...And you guys used to make fun of me for hanging out in hotel lobby bars... Humph!
