Lemming Knows Coach Bennett Well!!!

Postby Ponymon » Sun Jan 19, 2003 3:46 pm

Tom Lemmings Summer 2002 magazine had this to say about Bennett and SMU: "Normally I spend several days in the Dallas area bouncing from school to school and interviewing playeers from Dallas to Fort Worth. This year, however, I came up with the idea of trying to get all the ball players to meet me at the Gerald Ford Stadium at SMU. New Mustang Head Coach Phil Bennett has been a longtime friend of mine. In fact, he's been coming over to my house to watch film for close to 20 years. Coach Bennett and recruiting coordinator Eric Roark allowed me to use their facilities when conducting my interviews and collecting films from all of the top ball players within a 100-mile radius of the Dallas/Fort Worth Area. The majority of the time was spent doing interviews and I was very much aware of the Mustang's new and extremely impressive facilities. The combination of these facilities and Coach Bennett's coaching ability and contacts should mean a resurgence in the SMU football fortunes. I spent a good part of that Sunday at SMU, but it was well worth it. Rather then spending four or five days in the Dallas area, this year I spent only two."

I am surprised that there hasn't been any comment on Lemmings ties to Bennett. By the way, the preseason mag. had a great picture on the inside of the front cover of the magazine of every major recruit in the DFW area, including Moss, Kennedy, Mohetau, Baker Cunnignham, Battle, Hall, Devereaux Daugherty, Hodge, Brown, etc. standing together for a group photograph in the middle of Ford Stadium. Even though Hall has been the only one in that picture to commit, they all, at least, got to see the stadium and probably some of the campus. Hopefully, Lemming will stop at SMU annually in June to evaluate the talent in the DFW area. Great chance to have the top recruits informally see the campus!

There is also a picture of Lebron James on the same page. Evidentally, he would have been one of the top football recruits in the nation as a wide receiver if he hadn't been such a great basketball player. He is 6'8", 232lbs and runs a 4.6 forty! As a junior he caught 60 passes for 1,200 yards and 16 TDS and was completely indefensible. He's got huge hands, runs tremendous routes, can out leap every defender, and show surprising speed for a big guy. GPA was 2.8!.

Do you think that Dement and Bennett have a relationship that would stand up to SHARING this guy.

That would be very [deleted] the kid given the Grade Point Average. Something to think about.

Oh, thank you, you made CPC chuckle tonight. There's nothing to think about, Lebron James isnt going to play any sports in college. He may not ever see the inside of a college classroom. Six months from today he's going to be the first player taken in the NBA draft. The only people who are going to argue about sharing him will be the little girls at the nightclubs where he hangs out.
Some will tell you that a glass is half empty, and others that the same glass is half full. But all CPC really wants to know is...... does the drink taste good?

Really? You don't think that shiny new Hummer he's driving around is on a loan from some kind of scholastic aid organization that requires kids to go to college? I'm sure his (unemployed) mom would be THRILLED to see her baby bypass millions and go to college. She clearly has a huge respect for education, and probably wouldn't mind if he risked injury by going to college, right?
