Fun old times indeed!
For those football fans our there, I guess wrestling isn't much of a spectator sport, but for the combatants, it's hard to beat the combination of skill, strength, balance, reaction, flexibility... and on and on. It's a tremendous sport.
Actually, I went to Trinity Christian in Addison... And I have some less than fond memories of certain Lake Highlands wrestlers - one suckered me out of the state tournament in 1985 - still have to kick myself for that one every now and again.
Wrestling isn't as popular here as up north, but we have our share of good fighters. I wrestled against Olympic greco roman champ Brad Knause of Irving Nimitz (whose Dad was an Olympic coach) and future UFC champ Guy Metzger of Plano.
I wish I'd come to SMU while you were there. By the time I was (86-89), they only had two invitational tournaments – one when I was a freshman I think, and one about the time I was a junior.
Bus, I think I've met you a couple of times at various events, so the next time I see you around I'll make sure to reintroduce myself by way of a cobra / hip toss / bar arm / half nelson / figure 4 / jungle ride... So be ready!
