In total points we are presently 36th and TCU is 41st. In average points SMU is 79th and TCU 70th. The average points rating is presently hugely skewed because there are at least 15 schools with say 1-8 recruits who have artificially inflated scores due to a few outstanding prospects including for example JC players. A good example is San Jose St with one reported commitment of a 4 star recruit who is I believe is former TCU recruit Tyson Thompson. That gives then a shiny 4 star average but it is too late in the game for them to pick up 8-9 recruits that might keep them close to SMU in total points once they fill their class. I predicted about 3 months ago that Bennett would have an absolutely outstanding class if he could finish in the Top 60 because those BCS schools are going to fill their classes up with top recruits. I think that's about where we are headed toward. But remember instead of UT, A&M, OU, Nebraska, Iowa St, Colorado, Kansas St, Tech, Missouri et al SMU plays Rice, La Tech, Tulsa, Nevada, San Jose St, Hawaii, Boise et al. It is an entirely different level of competition. A more rational comparison is that right now SMU and TCU have easily the best non-BCS classes in the Nation. That is truly our competition. Congrats to Bennett on a great job and hopefully we can close with a couple more standouts. Recruiting is relative to who you play on the field. Also, remember that well after signing date schools like Fresno, La Tech, Nevada, San Jose et al will likely fill up with some great prospects who aren't even being given attention necause of academic issues, low SATs, and the lack of a qualifying score to even take a visit. These are some of the subtleties that many of you don't pay enough attention to when wondering why SMU has not always been as competitive as you would have liked or hoped. For those of you with Rivals go to the Database and check all kids from Texas who are uncommitted but are at least a 3 star recruit. I haven't counted them but I bet there are at least 40 kids. Now go see the schools they have visited and a great number haven't even taken a visit and don't have even a single offer. These are members of the subterranean group of outstanding prospects so many of you forget about that have academic issues that will send them to JC or prerhaps they'll be taken late in the recruiting year as partial or non-qualifiers. These are not leftovers like so many SMU FB and BB fans assert. They are quality prospects that will end up at schools they are willing to cut these corners. In the past these same type of players have beaten SMU on the field and the Court as well.
