Daily Oklahoman Recruiting Article

Postby No Quarter » Sun Jan 26, 2003 11:13 pm

There is another recruiting article in the online OKC paper today about the recruiting of a big OL with questionable grades, Brandon Keith, from McAlester. Keith had 70 pancake blocks. Compare with the 187 pancakes by SMU commit Justin Boren!

This article has links to the previously published articles with Blue and Red Chip Lists for the state of Oklahoma, commit lists and wish lists for OU and OSU, etc., with Muse and McGee mentioned.

But can someone compare the size of McAlester and Colleyville for us?

McAlester I know - 26 miles from Eufaula, home of the Selmons and J C Watts, and three miles from Krebs with unusual Italian restaurants. McAlester is an Oklahoma 4A or 5A school.

But Colleyville?

Colleyville's Heritage High School is a 5A school, meaning Boren racked up his 187 pancakes against the biggest, strongest teams in Texas. McAlester is a small-to-medium size school - meaning Boren is a far superior prospect. So are Bryan Turner and Caleb Peveto. Kenard Burley probably is a lot better, too, even though his school is pretty small, too. He was always a lot bigger than the guys he faced each week, but I bet he's better than that Okie.

Thanks for the info about Colleyville. I think its been a given since at least Hayden Fry's time at SMU to recruit the linemen from the big schools.

My original point was that 187 pancakes versus 70 is impressive, given more or less equal competition, though its not clear in either case how many games were played to reach that total.
