Just b/c you cite Erickson does not absolve Fran from the way he left his players high and dry. The situation at Alabama was unique Coach Fran looked those upperclassmen in the eyes and said we're in a tough situation, but we are going to get through it together. Well, he failed to heed his own advice. I also don't believe that Alabama didn't allow him to meet with his players. That story would have been all over the news. Sounds like a whisper campaign by Coach Fran to rehabilitate his credibility. Slim chance.

Look A&M fans have a reason to be excited about Coach Fran (I know I would), but even the most ardent A&M boosters know that Coach Fran has some credibility issues. Will he be successful? Yes. Would you be surprised if in three (3) years he leaves? Probably not b/c that's his history.

We also know that if Coach Bennett is successful at SMU he too will be called on by "bigger" schools and I am sure he'll pursue other opportunities, BUT we all know he'll leave the right way. That's something Coach Fran needs some lessons in.

Dont get me wrong. I dont think it turned out well at all. My point is that Fran got chastised while some of these other guys got off the hook. Maybe it is because he is "more well thought of" or who knows.

I think for the most part you guys are objective but before Bama goes around bad mouthing someone they should look in the mirror. They lied to get Coach Fran and they paid the ultimate price. I just like the fact that it got so far under the skin of the Bama faithful whose whole identity is rolled up into a guy who has been dead for 20 years and who basically did the same thing to A&M.

I think that it would have to be a pretty incredible offer for Coach Bennett to leave SMU...I really do. I think he wants to return SMU to glory. He said that he and his wife had always dreamed of him coaching at SMU and being successful. Without her now I think that he wants to fulfill a dream and what a better place to do it...
