Linebackers

Postby Vitale » Fri Jul 11, 2003 2:47 pm

With D.D. Johnson, Jarrian James and Brian Bischoff graduating in a year, does that become a major priority in this year's limited class? Or is the depth at the position (D.D. Lee, Reggie Carrington, Jamar Bey, Cole Horton, Zach Hall, Avery Cleveland) enough that we can simply recruit the best players available, regardless of position?

Vitale - You left out Cory Muse. Is that because you buy into the speculation about Muse being moved to WR, or because you don't think he'll make a LB?

I didn't mean to leave him out. I thought about including him, but all the gossip i've heard has him playing on offense this year. That could change in August, but players have said he's being moved to offense. And on Signing Day, Coach Bennett alluded to that possibility, too.

So assuming a starting trio of Johnson, Lee and Bischoff, with James, Carrington, Horton and Bey as backups, does that mean that Hall and Cleveland (and Muse, if he stays at LB) automatically get redshirted? Or is that not enough bodies?

Muse will stay at LB. Muse, Clevelaaand and Hall will probably RS.

Down the road, one or two of Horton, Bey, Hall could move to DE.

With Jamar Bey and Cole Horton each measuring in at 6'5" I'd say they're ideal DE candidates. I gather from people who know them that Horton is likely to carry more weight, so maybe he should go to DE and leave Bey as a tall, fast, havoc-wreaking OLB?
