the brother of SMU RB Johnie Fitzgerald(remember the star of the spring who didn't manage to earn a single carry in Lubbock) was named the Dallas Morning News High School Defensive Player of the Week. He had 3 interceptions with the last one coming with about 3 minutes to play and returned 58 yards for the winning TD. Coach says he is better athlete than his brother. Plays "both ways" and also had 2 receptions at WR for 25 yards. He is 5-10, 170 and a senior.

I noticed that Fitzgerald is listed as a "Player to Watch" in Texas Football and they show that he runs a 4.5 forty.
I also noticed that it appears that Kenard Burley has a brother named Deverick Burley at Scurry-Rosser who is also a "Player to Watch". He is listed as an OG and is 6'3" 235 lbs. Reportedly, he runs a 4.9 forty.
Anybody know if we are recruiting either brother?

I noticed that Casey Fitzgerald had at least another interception which he returned for a 25 yard TD-also had 41 yards rushing on only 2 carries in Game 2. Now 4 Ints with two returned for TDs in two weeks.

WOW! he did it again! Casey Fitgerald returned an interception for a 15 yard TD again. Now has AT LEAST 5 interceptions with 3 returned for TDs. Noticed he also had 2 receptions for51 yards. In limited use he makes big plays in the passing game, the running game at CB. He must have outstanding CB skills although so far he is riding under the recruiting radar. This might be a guy we jump on now before word gets out-if he's got the required speed.

Sounds like one of those guys you go get, even if the stopwatch doesn't merit it. He sounds like a kid who just makes play after play after play.

OK, this is a bit of a reach, but ....
Last week, when PonyPride reported that Coach Bennett was thinking about lifting the redshirt off Richuel Massey, he said that Coach Bennett said that one reason was because Johnnie Fitzgerald hadn't developed quite like the coaches had hoped. He said moving Fitzgerald to another position was a possibility: fullback, or maybe even defense.
What if Fitzgerald gets moved to defense next year. Think Casey Fitzgerald would let that factor in to his own decision, the chance to play with his brother -- not just on the same team, but in the same part of the field?

I think a lot of it could be Johnie's attitude about the change in position. Lots of running backs don't handle that well.
Let's hope it works out like it did for Terrell Suggs at ASU.
The attitude dictates that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays, or prays. I mean whatever happens, your toes are still tappin'. Now when you got that, then you have the attitude.

Perhaps Red Oak needs to find more ways to get Fitzgerald the ball. He touched it 2 times Saturday Nite and scored on a 25 yard TD pass and an 84 yard TD pass to finish with 2 catches for 109 yards in a 30-13 Red Oak victory. Playmaker!!!!!!!!!!

You have to remember that Fitzgerals is STILL just a RS frosh. Plenty of time for him to contribute somewhere before he's done. If he's a player, he'll earn playing time somewhere. Sounds like younger brother is certainly a player. Anyone know his stats...size, speed?
