Not many Jucos here...why the rep???

Postby TCUPunter » Sat Nov 01, 2003 1:41 am

Just looked at our roster and I saw only 2 on there and neither are starters. This years class wil probably have 3 tops (one didnt get in last year).

So not sure why we would be lumped in with La Tech and Fresno State in some of ya'lls mind. Fran and Gary clearly want to sign HS seniors and redshirt them. In the past 6 years we may have played 12 true freshman tops.

Good luck in recruiting because we need ya'll to get better so our rivalry will mean something on a national level.

no but TCU will most definitely take chances on the marginal recruit SMU won't. Your two biggest recruits from two years ago were partial and non-qualifiers Robert Merrill and Earl Anderson. Anderson's a JC now and has recommitted now. He's bring along a top teammate that couldn't even graduate from JC in two years. Ladanian Tomlinson was a partial qualifier. Lonta Hobbs was a late qualifier. These are quality DIFFERENCE MAKERS. Your quality BB teams under Tubbs were built on JC players. Don't get me wrong I don't have a real problem with what TCU is doing now because they limit the marginal students to reasonable numbers although I think under Tubbs you were pushing the envelope-but its nothing that OU, Tech, Baylor, UH et al isn't doing-just setting the record straight about some of the differences in admission standards. Give me 2-3 difference makers like those above which TCU has consistently offered over the last 8 years or so and SMU would be on the road to recovery.

I dont think Merrill and LT were partial qualifiers.....LT played as a true freshman and so could have Merrill had he beaten out Hobbs. We got Merrill due to a strong pipeline from his HS.
