If you look beyond just the stars, we have managed to snag 5 of the 5.4 "almost" three star players. All but 4 of the rated players were 5.3 or above. Compare that with past classes where we don't get within [deleted] distance of those numbers. 2007= 15 players < 5.3 2006= 12 Players < 5.3, 2005= 9 Players < 5.3.

I hope that Julian Herron or Victor Jones grows into their role. Or that Odiari drags himself out of the Doghouse and onto the field.

That is the point I was trying to make before. This class is significantly better than the ones before it, and there are fewer reaches in this class than we have had in quite a while.

Walk-ons aren't likely to do Jack. I guarantee you there are about 65-70 players on TCU Football team who were relatively highly recruited. Of course, you are never gonna get superstars at every position but you damn sure better have at least 2 strings ready to contribute to your football team and have other guys red-shirting or developing in the wings or you are going to be in trouble. TCU's Second string LB would have been the best player on the defensive side of the field for SMU this past year.

Two strings is not four or five deep. I agree we should be three deep at every position with solid players. Four deep at running back and QB if you can do that.

Everybody has a role to play in developing a program whether they are expected to play or not. Depth is not necessarily 4-5 guys who are going to play immediately. Ideally, it could be 2 quality players who were highly recruited in 2007 and 2006 and have experience in the program, a redshirt freshman who sat last year and a Hot-Shot freshman. Instead, what we got last year was about 16 freshman running around without any clue or proper preparation the vast majority of which had no business playing D1A Football as a freshman.

Agree. One can't count on walk ons to be much of an impact. Occasionally, one contributes but general they have to develop over a couple of years.

Of course, every now and again a Wes Hopkins walks on to the field but its rare.
