Texas A&M

I am certain this has been discussed, but A&M's national rankings on Rivals are still consistently in the teens; one 5 star RB and a handful of 4 stars this year...they were up there last year, too. Missed the top 25 in 2006-7, but in 2005, #8; 2004, #13.

So perhaps there is some of the "mystical magic" in those rankings as described in the TCU / Rice / SMU discussion...

But doesn't this debunk the current "consensus opinion" that A&M fans are out of touch, expectations are unrealistic, and they're living in 1993?

/ not an ag, btw

Any conversation around A&M seems to be polarizing - most people like them, or absolutely can't stand them. I think it may have something to do with their strange traditions around the corps, yada yada yada.

Personally, had I been a football prospect, I would have loved to have played there. Even when they aren't good, their fans are passionate as hell. The campus is huge and beautiful, and it's a great college town right in the heart of football country.

I think all those things make up for the fact that their record hasn't been that good, and their coaching has left a lot to be desired.

A&M doesn't get the consistent quality UT or OU does. Their points are often based on higher recruit numbers. Compare to OU and UT on Average Per Recruit. Not really close. Almost every year UT and OU are loading up with 4 and 5 stars while A&M sprinkles a few 4 starsd with a Class of 3 Stars. Basically, UT has shut A&M out for years on the players they want. They are usually done by May-10 months before signing date and A&M picks up Texas' leftovers.

"The campus is huge and beautiful"

The campus is huge but it's definitely not beautiful. It's made Top 20 worst campus lists. Game day is good especially for a big game.

Last year they couldn't beat Arkansas State, and Barely beat New Mexico and only beat a horrible Army team full of 4.9 2 stars because Army fumbled on their last drive. If I was a recruit I would not go there right now because Sherman is terrible. Worst team I ever saw last year.

Beautiful campus? Have you ever been there? All square orangey colored brick buildings. Mostly really old. I saw on a website last year where it was rated the 10th ugliest campus in America. The fans are good. But no cheerleaders...

Ha. Did not see your post. Well if both me and Coog said basically the same thing. It must be true.

There are 9 universities with uglier campuses?

Pretty sure one of those is about 40 miles N of Dallas on I-35.

Yes I've been there, but I guess big open grass lawns are ugly in your opinion. The newer buildings, especially those around the stadium, are quite nice.
