Basketball Scholarships

Postby MustangIcon » Fri Mar 13, 2009 1:58 pm

This topic comes up a couple times a week, so I have made it its own thread. We lose 1 senior- Bamba. That scholarship is being taken by Julius Francis. We do however have another scholarship that we didn't use (or potentially loaned to Hoge). Either way we have another scholarship to give without running anyone off the team. See below.

All of our players are here with two exceptions: Cort Hoge and Ryan Maag. Both of these young men are walk-ons, but I like to just consider them "players". Cort is a 6-10 post player from Oklahoma that can shoot and handle the ball. He has a big frame and will add depth at the post position. Cort was here for Summer One. Ryan is a point guard from Houston that is strong and can really shoot the ball. Ryan was here for orientation this week. I am excited that they decided to join our program because they will valuable assets in the development of our team.

Hoge was a walkon when he got here. He may in fact still be a walkon (not sure that anyone confirmed he received scholarship this season). He always intended to attend SMU as a walkon. If he received a scholarship this season, it appears to be bc we had one that we didn't use and gave him a loaner to keep it warm for this year.

There will be more scholarships opening up. Like many have said on this board before, 2-3 guys on this team need to move on. Time to bring in more JUCO talent and hopefully convince another stud to join McCoy...
