Re: Where's the Beef?Yes I was, oh the humanity... We couldn't even kick a field goal. On the other hand, I was at the San Jose State game when Shanderrick Charles, tied a freshman rushing record of 240 plus yards in a game. That was a good day. Only to have him get hurt in a pick up basketball game as I recall and out of athletics for good. Talk about snake bit. June will get us out of the ditch. It's just going to take a while. Fortunately, we recruit on a more level playing field now. Stallion has always been right about that. Have a great day Proud Mama. I always enjoy your posts. I wish more parents would do the same.

Re: Where's the Beef?Proudmama,
I am very happy that Evan has done so well in summer school and I am sure a lot of people that are fans of the program are very relieved, especially the coaching staff! From your discussions last year on this and Scout's board, I am very aware of your concern that Evan do well in school. I was a little concerned therefore when Evan wasn't allowed to participate in Spring practice because of potential grade problems. Despite what some of the fans on this and other fan boards believe, getting a quality education is what school is ultimately all about. The first year in college is probably the most exciting and toughest given the adjustment that is required. Participating in a sport just makes it more difficult. It sounds like this has been a positive learning experience for him and am very happy to see him blossoming as a leader in the community. BTW I don't believe that a public education system is the key to getting a good education. The key is a caring family that ensures that their kids are learning what is necessary to not only get a quality job but live a full and meaningful life. I know that Evan received that in Tonga because of your determination to make sure it happened. I just wish that more children had such caring parents.
Re: Where's the Beef?i still have 4 years of eligibility...i'll step in.
Re: Where's the Beef?
Thanks Ponymon. Although I have not given up on the public school system Evan did go to a private all boys catholic high school his junior and senior year. It was college prep and I believe that set a firm foundation for Evan thus no excuses for poor grades, freshman or not. We couldn't be prouder of his commitment to SMU and the high school kids that he's helping out. It's worth all the years of hard work and doing without to see that we have raised a child that will become a productive member of society. Re: Where's the Beef?
I was at that game...if I am not mistaken, FS scored 7 TDs on their first 7 possessions. If you were there RGV, we probably chatted.
Re: Where's the Beef?
I think it's because of that game that I hope SMU never goes back to blue pants. They were blue that night, werent they?
Re: Where's the Beef?Your memory is certainly better than mine, although I do remember my wife saying "Fresno?...will they even be competitive?"
Also remember being ridiculed on the way out due to my SMU shirt and thinking....how did we sink this low.
Re: Where's the Beef?
and that takes me to another memory...Justin Willis' first game, in Lubbock. Cold, misty evening. Because of the weather, I didnt bring my son with me to the game. I parked in the lots adjacent to Tech's bball arena, and took the bus over. Me with my SMU cap and about 50 Tech fans, each way. Fun.
Re: Where's the Beef?To Proud Mama and Mama Bouchet: Always delighted to read your posts. They actually make sense which is sometimes totally lacking in far too posts. Our defense will be very stong at the close of season. BIGGEST DIFFERENCE is going to be the size of the DL. They are not going to be pushed around in the 4th quarter. Do not believe were going to have any long drives against us late in the game. LBs are bigger & faster. Secondary will be as well. Probably will be some rough spots early. As the season progresses the players will become accustomed to each other. The end of the season will show a much improved group. JJ is recruiting what he feels he needs or what he perceives to be weaknesses on the field. This will be a vastly improved defense and offense. I dont know how it will transfer to wins and losses but i am very optomistic. More so than in many years. Went to my first mustang game in 1949 and got tosee Doak Walker. A mazing|
