Classic example of a recruit not being accepted by another school that has been taken by another school, and this player will face SMU. Destin had a feature article in a Tulsa paper on Friday where he talked about how much he was looking to play for Hawaii...but by the end of the weekend things had changed and he was headed for Tulsa instead. Destin Stewart, a wideout from Douglass High in Tulsa, met the NCAA requirements to play for the Warriors this season.
But UH and Tulsa have different standards, and he did not gain admittance to Manoa.
The Warriors were forced to release Stewart from the letter of intent he signed in February. Stewart is now enrolled at Tulsa, and will play for the Golden Hurricane this season. http://warriorbeat.honadvblogs.com/2009 ... ns-destiny

Hawaii requires a C+ HS GPA, SAT just north of national average, and algebra 2 plus the "core" classes, these requirements aren't difficult to attain if a student paid attention in classes. SMU has similar challenges to compete against C USA teams with much lower academic entrance requirements for recruits.

Not at all. In fact, they have one of the most competitive Trailer Park Management programs in the Midwest. -CoS

Ralph, From what I was told, Dustin actually met all of those requirements. However, Hawaii has an additional requirement for admissions that this recruit didn't realize. For some reason, nobody apparently checked that requirement until the weekend before training camp started! Missouri recruited Dustin really hard and tried to get him to change his commit during the month before NLI day...so this is Hawaii's loss and Tulsa's gain.

Someone who can spell Ralph.
SMU's first president, Robert S. Hyer, selected Harvard Crimson and Yale Blue as SMU's colors to symbolize SMU's high academic standards. We are one of the few Universities to have school colors with real meaning...and we just blow them off.

Gee, everyone at my high school applied to the University of Richmond as their safety school. But then again, I went to high school in Virginia.
UNC better keep that Ram away from Peruna
