Louie Swope Game Updates

Postby Stallion » Sat Aug 29, 2009 12:29 pm

Louie Swope made two special teams plays credited as the difference is Austin Westlake's 24-14 victory over a strong Cedar Park team. Swope had a 30 yard punt return to set up a TD and blocked a 4th Quarter FG attempt.

I haven't seen it listed here but speaking of Cedar Park, our early offeree, Holmes Onwukaife, committed to Florida State

Comment by Texas Football:

No. 19 Austin Westlake at Cedar Park: Westlake, 24-14
When Ryan Swope graduated last year and took his talents to Texas A&M, Westlake knew his little brother, Louie Swope, would have to play well for the Chaps to make up for the loss. Well, the younger Swope, an SMU pledge, did that and more, and his special teams play down the stretch ultimately made the difference in this Centex rivalry.

This articke says Swope had 2 blocked FGs and 2 big punt returns

3. Westlake v. Cedar Park
This was a very odd game to watch and even odder after looking through the stats. The scrappy Westlake D led by SMU bound DB Louie Swope (#21 DB – SR) found a way to shut out the more physical Offense of Cedar Park in the second half and steal a win despite losing the stat war by a large margin. Big plays can change a game and Swope did that with his special teams play alone by blocking 2 FGs and setting up Westlake with great field position on two stellar punt returns. Linebacker Bryce Hager (#44 LB – SR) was solid as he went sideline to sideline and pretty much sealed the game late in the 4th Quarter with a big QB sack. The biggest play of the night came courtesy of Phillip Reed (#53 OL – SR) and Jimmy Coleman (#65 OL – SR) who created a huge ally for an 80 yard TD scamper from Lewis Guilbeau (#9 QB/RB – SO). The long run was probably the turning point of the game for Westlake. On the Cedar Park side, Dom Espinosa (#55 C – SR), the #1 Center in the country, lived up to his press as he totally dominated the center of the line. Cedar Park battering ram Brad Willard (#26 FB – SR) had a huge night rushing for almost 80 yards before having to leave the game in the 3rd Quarter from severe leg cramps. Trying to steal some of the limelight from his big brother was Zach Espinosa (#21 S – SO) who earned a starting position on a defense that is talent loaded with several big tackles at the line of scrimmage and spectacular pass break up of a long throw at midfield. The trio of LB’s Joey Nichol (#47 LB – SR), Holmes Onwukaife (#90 LB – SR) and Chet Moss (#13 LB – JR) all have college offers and were very solid in limiting Westlake to only 70 yards when you take away Guilbeau’s

Austin Westlake took it on the chin losing to Lake Travis last nite 42-21. Turned into the Michael Brewer show as the Junior QB passed for 412 yards and 4 TDs. Brewer the son and grandson of former UT QB attended SMU's Spring Game with his father. He is replacing Top UT Recruit Garrett Gilbert but hasn't missed a beat so far this season. Lake Travis has the longest winning streak in Texas. No info on Swope's performance

Just saw a report that Swope was carted off the field tonight with a possible ACL tear. Hope it's not that serious since it would be the 2nd recruit to go down with a blown ACL in the last 2 weeks.

Reading the Statesman, I also saw where Storm Woods, Pflugerville's star running back (class of 2011), was carted off the field with a serious knee injury.

Texas High School Highlite Show confirmed the fact of an injury and showed him being carried off. The extent of the injury was not stated.
