The good news is that, according to Insiders, SMU has offered DT DeMarcus Granger. The better news is that he's listing SMU third.

DeMarcus Granger
Defensive tackle
Dallas (Kimball), Texas
Ht: 6-2.5 Wt: 310 40: 5.25
Position: DT
Projected as: DT
Position Rank: NR
Class: 2005 Senior

Biography:
Junior Stats: DeMarcus Granger absolutely shredded opposing offensive lines as a JR. 68 tackles/17 sacks/11 FC/6 FR.

"I just think he make's it look so easy out there," Dallas Kimball HC Darrell Jordan on Granger's abilities said. "He was the second-leading tackler on our football team and second in sacks. He can really run for a big guy, especially north-south, but a little east-west also..."

"I move good for my size. I'm faster than most guys on the O-line. I'm real big and strong and can overpower everybody. I need college level speed. I want to fly off the line faster."

Benches 405
Squatss 550
Vertical jumps 28

Claims medium interest in:
LSU (offer), Oklahoma, SMU (offer), Tennessee (offer), Texas (offer), Texas A&M (offer).

Rivals lists stuff alphabetically so we are not really third. Could be first.....

Actually, that was on Insiders, I gather, but Pony Fan's point is right - they're just listed alphabetically. So we might be third, we might be first, we might be sixth. What's important is that Granger told a national recruiting service that SMU is one of the schools he's considering. Landing this kid would be unbelievable.

Rivals had a story a few days back called (something like) "Granger - baddest DT in the land?" or something like that. I didn't read the story, because I don't have a subscription. However, it will be interesting to watch this. If Granger retains serious interest in SMU, throughout the season, watch how far he falls on the rivals.com list of DTs. The fact is that Granger is considered one of the best -- if not THE best -- DTs in the nation. And the coaches everywhere know that, which is why he's fielding offers from everywhere. But it will be comical to see how he slides in the eyes of the recruiting services if he keeps SMU as a viable choice. And it will show once and for all how the opinions of coaches are so much more important than the ratings players receive from non-football guys.

Maybe I an naive or less cynical but remember a couple of years ago, as we were having a really decent group of recruits and the ratings for those players generally went up later in the recruiting cycle. If we have recruiting momentum with highly rated players it can drive up, not down the ratings.

It could also be that the coaches spotted the budding talent and the services were catching up.
Go Ponies!!
