hmmm I thought his eligibility was used up-anyway. he is a 2 way starter on North Crowley's shocking 4A state championship team. Also plays as an undersized OLM in high school. Measured at Nike Camp and should be accurate rather than inflated 6-1, 193 4.56 Bench 14 Vertical 34.1 Shuttle Time 4.28. Only other offers Lousiana Monroe. Again another kid who shows very good at the Nike camp except for the strength index. Out of approximately 46 or so LBs Alexander was 4th in the 40, 1st in the Vertical, 5th in the Shuttle but only tied for 33rd in the Bench. Looks like a probable redshirt. But just think in the old days before these camps the SIDs office would probably report he was 6-3, 210 and 4.4. At least you know their size coming in these days.........I have to laugh because just after writing that I noticed the DMN in its most recent report concerning Players To Watch list him as 6-3, 215. He made something like 120 tackles last year and is named I think for this year as the District 4-5A Defensive MVP by 5A TexasFootball.com.

Sounds like an athlete and a football player. Can't have to many of those. We'll put him somewhere if he's too small for LB.

Wilton McCray is supposed to be too small, too. And all he's done since he got here is be arguably the best true freshman in camp. Coach Bennett said on the radio last week that he doesn't think they "missed" on a single freshman this year. I'm getting the sense the man can evaluate talent. If the coaches like this Alexander kid, I like him, too.

Without knowing a thing about the guy, I think this sounds like a classic Bennett pick-up. If he's a little small, you welcome him to campus next fall with the statement "Todd, welcome to SMU. This is Coach Faucette. He now owns you." After all, Coach Faucette has added nearly 50 pounds (and 200 pounds on the bench!) to Chris Urbanus, and had similar success with Darrin Johnson. He slapped 20 pounds on Don Ieremia-Stansbury when he moved up to DE.

Coach has always said he requires quickness and speed. Sounds like he has it in this guy. The strength will come.

6'1 193 is small for a collegiate linebacker, but it's great for an 18-yr-old HS kid. He's strong, pretty fast, and is obviously a player. Remember, he has 10+ months of growing before he ever even puts on a Mustang helmet, and probably 2+ years before he plays.

At that size, plus maybe another inch and a few pounds, couldn't he be an outstanding free safety prospect? He's bigger than Nnabuife was when he was recruited, I believe.

Then again, Coach B has made a living with LBs who are deemed by some coaches to be "too small" but can run. Coach Bennett got a kid at K-State named Josh Buhl who was told by SMU that we weren't recruiting him because he was too small to play LB in college. All-Big 12, and I think he's in an NFL camp (either drafted or as a free agent - not sure). I'll take those guys all day.

"It's not about the size of the dog in the fight, it's about the size of the fight in the dog." This guy sounds like a great athlete who we can bulk up. As I recall, that Boise St. team that dominated us (and just about everyone else they played last season including overrated TCU) didn't look that big or imposing, they just played good football. That's what we need to do. Go watch a Highland Park game if you think size and speed trumps coaching and discipline.

Good point about Boise State. You look at the receivers they trotted out last year, and there's not one that you look at and think "that guy's going to be tough." None of them had particularly great size or strength or anything, but all they did was shred every defense they faced. This kid sounds like a scrapper who might be able to do some of the same things.

The picture in Texas Football is completely different from the one on Rivals. The one in Texas football shows that Alexander is African-American. The one on Rivals shows he is white. Maybe this is where some of the discrepancy is coming from. Which is right?
