Navy Crimson please outline for us what the non BCS schools should be doing that they have not done -- or that SMU has not done.

I'm not sure there is much future in fighting this BcS bs...the reality is that their own greed factor may bring it down without our help. We can only hope.

They certainly don't want a super division...they would only have each other to play and their w/l records would start to look terrible. They at some point have to look around and realize that by monopolizing the $$$ thay will kill off the source for their wonderful w/l records. Then what????

It is a basically flawed system that will, with a little luck, come crashing down on their heads.

Well, I don't know crap about this HP guy, but the best advice I could give him is this: take your 3.5 GPA and learn some football history.

Look at some of the past FSU QBs: Ward, Weinke, and Rix. Ward played basketball, Weinke has been awful (albeit a Heisman winner, and a crappy one at that), and Rix was terrible, even after starting in the system for 3 years (not sure about that fact, but it has been a number of years), he seems to have not gotten any better.

True, SMU is not the place to go to be a better QB nor is Texas (no one ever leaves UT with more skills than they came with).

HP QB, whatever your name is, go to a place that has shown itself to make quarterbacks better. E.g. USC, Miami, Florida, South Carolina (Spurrier is great), etc...

Otherwise, go to FSU, and enjoy the armpit that is Tallahasee (sp?).

For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.

CP and LA, it sounds like the two of you are in violent agreement. It goes without saying that the BCS schools have the edge in recruiting, but suggesting that administration show leadership against the cartel presumes we have some leverage at this time. At a minimum, it is premature for us or our colleagues in CUSA or other mid-majors to have the juice to force the BCS to do anything. It is called the "golden rule."

From our perspective, we can capture the recruits that:

- want assurances that they will get the opportunities and playing time which may not occur at a football factory.
- see themselves as difference makers in returning a program to prominence.
- value a degree from one of the top universities in Texas and the SW.
- love the idea of playing in Dallas.

This doesn't change the reality that much high schoolers will look to the "top BCS" schools first, but everyone else is a real possibility. And they are less likely to go Pro after three years.

Sally Jenkins wrote a ditzy article in the Washington Post today about the BCS. Come to think of it she usually writes ditzy articles. Her suggestion was that there be a playoff, but in the meantime (and I'm not making this up) UT should donate its share of the Rose Bowl purse to the suffering victims of the tsunami.
