Coaching carousel and recruitingSounds like the leading candidates at LSU (at least according to ESPN radio today) are Petrino (Louisville) and Miles (OSU). If Miles were to get the job, might we be able to steal some of OSU's Texas-born commitments?
I agree with the thread on the football board that suggests Les Miles is going nowhere after laying an egg last night against Ohio State. Here's the Oklahoma State recruits, according to rivals.
Ryan McBean DE - 6-5/275 NR Raymond , MS (already signed) T.J. Bell DB 5.1 6-0/175 NR DeSoto, TX Brady Bond OL 5.5 6-7/260 59 Garber, OK Gremon Coffman DB 5.7 6-2/193 13 Duncanville, TX Matt Fodge K 5.2 6-1/180 NR Garland, TX Noah Franklin OL 5.5 6-4/299 39 Vinita, OK Chris Hall OL 5.6 6-5/285 31 Irving, TX Chris Jones DE 5.3 6-3/234 NR Lafayette, LA T.J. Minor DE 5.1 6-4/245 NR Houston, TX Quinton Moore DB 5.6 5-11/180 28 Pearland, TX Brent Nickerson DB 5.5 6-0/185 48 Irving, TX Josh Pinaire DT - 6-5/290 NR Hutchinson, KS Eric Preast LB 5.4 6-1/210 NR Sulphur, OK Andre Sexton DB 5.5 6-0/189 37 Houston, TX Kevin White RB 5.5 6-3/210 47 DeSoto, TX Tevin Williams WR - 6-3/215 NR Miami, OK Willie Williams DT - 6-4/303 NR Hutchinson, KS Marlon Winn OL 5.3 6-5/280 NR Waxahachie, TX But again, I think last night's Alamo Bowl ended any chance of Miles getting a new job.
Boy, you have to hand it to Miles. To get so many good recruits to go to a dump like OSU boggles my mind. I guess part of it is their low academic standards (Dexter Manley stayed eligible there for four years while functionally illiterate), their membership in the Big XII, and Miles.
Think what SMU could do if we just lower our standards a bit - who would really know or care? We need to play the game the way our competitors do it or get out. When a dump of a city and a worthless degree factory like OSU can clean your clock in recruiting we need to retool everything.
Can't these guys figure out they are being used for five years to get the school some wins and some money? - they get either no degree (70%) or a worthless degree, and maybe one out of a hundred of them win the NFL lottery. At least we get the ones that decide to go to class something of value - I don't know why this is so hard for SMU to sell - but I guess the average 18 yr old football player wants TV exposure and a winning team (in that order) and dosn't really care about anything else, because they are not that smart to begin with (because everyone has done everything for them their entire life). Sorry for the rant but I feel better now.
sell SMU? While there is alot to offer prospective student athletes and the coaches do a wonderful job selling SMU. the situation at The Ohio State University provides a very clear picture of what is really "offered" at most major universities.
SMU...2nd to None
