Historically when they come in heavy the coaches have them diet down taking off the fat and then build them back up with muscle. Sounds more like this kid just needs to bulk up and that's what redshirts are for.

Definitely would rather have him coming in having to use a redshirt to bulk up 20 to 25 pounds rather than 50 to 55. I think he could end up at DE if OL doesn't work out.

the amount of fat cells on a 16 year's body is the most overrated factor in recruiting unless the recruit already has desired speed and height. If he had those he wouldnt have committed to June Jones in the first place-we don't outrecruit teams-we use magical mystical evaluation mojo. I'd just as soon recruit a kid 40 pounds too lite than 40 pounds too fat.

Only offer he mentioned was from Yale looked like he was getting a little bit of interest from some BCS programs........could be a D.I.R.

You're right. My mistake -- I read it and thought he'd be on campus this fall. An offensive lineman going into his senior year might be able to add what, 20 pounds? 30 pounds?

No reason he can't be around 270 as a true freshman, which is adequate. With a redshirt year he can be in the 290-300 range where our coaches like them.

If he's 270 by next August, that will be more than adequate. Redshirt him for a year, and then he gets four years starting at 285 or 290.
