Offensive lineman commits to SMU

Postby MustangFan » Tue Aug 10, 2004 11:00 am

Mitch Enright, a starting guard at Southlake Carroll High School, said Tuesday he has committed to SMU.

"I committed Saturday," Enright said. "It's close to home, and it's a great school. That's the most important thing -- I want to get a great education. I've talked with the coaches, and they really want me there. Coach (Phil) Bennett is a great coach, and I like the challenge of helping turn the program around."

Enright (6-2, 280, 4.9) said he benches 350 pounds, squats 500 and power-cleans 315. He was named first-team all-District 7-5A last year (Southlake Carroll has moved to District 5-5A this year) and was named third-team all-state as a junior by the Texas Sportswriters Association.

Enright chose SMU over Oklahoma State, Tulsa and Baylor, and said that he's already visited those schools, so the only official visit he plans to take is to SMU. He plays guard for the Dragons, but said he expects to play center at SMU.

"That (center) is where I want to play in college anyway," he said. "I'm not as tall as most offensive linemen, but I can move pretty well on pulling plays."

Would love to hear he actually was offered by any of the three listed in addition to us - but don't know how this can be anything but great news - to get a 280 lb future center with two years to strengthen the guy (Senior yr plus redshirt year). Probably can handle college also - which helps.

Need 4-5 more o-line big uns.

YES! YES! YES!

This is exactly what's needed to start the class. A big strong kid from an amazingly successful program like Southlake. Coming from that school, you know he knows how to run block, pass block, and more importantly, he knows how to win. Isn't Southlake one of the top HS teams in the entire nation? This seems to follow Coach Bennett's plan of recruiting not just talented players, but talented players who are used to winning.

Remember the days of recruiting 240-pound OLs and being told "they'll grow"? This kid's 280 and his senior year hasn't even started.

Where's BUS on this?

I agree with gostangs - there's no way to view this as anything other than good news. Hopefully this is just the beginning, and adding this big fella will get the ball rolling on a great class.

Keep it up, coaches!

Interesting Center prospect with some nice verified tools. Rivals doesn't list any other offers but did state Iowa and A&M were interested(older report). The interesting part is his performance at the Nike College Station camp I nentioned the other day in reference to First Team Texas Football Super Team Blake Kerley. I mentioed that they had a torrential rainfall and some of the times might be suspect depending on whether it was affected by the weather. Enright performed outstandingly in comparison to the other top prospects there. He was measured at 6-1, 282(no big deal for a center-mainlty All-Americans have been 6-1 or 6-2) . There were approximately 35 OLM and his results and approximate rank among OLM are as follows; 40 yard dash-5.16(8th-the fastest OLM only ran a 5.0); Bench Repetitions: 25(7th among OLM-16 among all positions), Vertical Leap- 24.1(6th), Shuttle Time 4.59(3rd). I think he beat Super Teamer Kerley at all 4 events. He appears to be a damn good athlete especially for a Center.

Wow - glowing review. Great to hear that. I also found a picture of him, and he looks lean and mean - there appears to be very little fat on him, especially for a lineman. Without knowing what his family looks like, I would guess he could get up to 300 under Coach Faucette.

Thanks for the report, Stallion. That makes this commitment even more encouraging!

The thing I like are those strength numbers. Last year we got three OLs (Peveto, Boren, Burley) who arrived on campus with much more power/strength than we've had in years past. No more guys who can bench 200 and then work their way up to 300 or beyond. Now we're getting guys who will arrive with greater strength, and Coach Faucette can make them even stronger. That can be the foundation of a much more physical team.

Sounds like a damn good commitment!

Strong and quick - 4.9 is fast for a guy that size.

Way to go coaches. Let's get some more!

That's what I was thinking. You'd think he'd be all over this.
He's probably on-line ordering an ENRIGHT jersey already.

Somehow it's appropriate that a big strong OL is leading the way for this class.
Congratulations on your choice, Mitch - you've made a great decision.

with the loss of Chris Hall, this is a very important commitment. We still need to build a quality 3 deep on both lines and that means recruiting at least 4 OL every year. Remember, Sean Lobo was the only OL signed last year.

Now let's hope Mitch has a monster senior season, keeps his commitment and helps recruit some more big boys.

Talked to him myself. I assume rivals and insiders will pick it up soon.
