David Allison Commits To SMURivals says that huge offensive lineman, David Allison from Humble, has committed to the Mustangs.
Insiders lists him at 6-5, 288, 5.4. So between them and Rivals, you get the picture: this is a really big dude.
Insiders also said that in addition to SMU, Colorado and Syracuse -- all of which offered him a scholarship -- he also had interest from Arizona, Baylor, Oklahoma State and Kansas. Not bad company. According to the media guide, Coach James recruits northeast Houston (and the Golden Triangle) and Coach Patterson recruits south Houston.
for what its worth Jeremy Crabtree the editor of Big 12 Recruiting said that Allison was rated "just outside the Texas Top 100" and a high 2 star at 5.4 so he seems to be well regarded. Also 5ATexasFootball.com rates Allison as one of the top 10 5A Offensive Linemen(along with Enright) in Texas.

Having just moved from Houston back to Dallas, I can tell you this...this is a BIG commitment for SMU! This kid got lots of publicity from the Houston Chronicle! Great find! Can't wait to see him hit The Hilltop!
I don't put any stock in the "stars" system, but if this guy is a national top-300 player, I'm thrilled to have him. I was looking at the recruits at the Tech game, and I saw a guy with dark hair who was absolutely enormous -- wonder if that was David A. If it was .... wow. He looks like his frame is close to those of Darrin Johnson and Chris Urbanus. Just an enormous frame.
Welcome to SMU, David! Glad to have you aboard. You and Mitch Enright are going to be great additions to the offensive line as the program climbs back up.
SMU appears to be making a conscious effort to get not only deeper, but also bigger, on the O-Line .... a move that needs to be made. I like the guys we have now on the 2-deep, but we clearly need more of them. We have a handful of capable backups, but OLs risk getting hurt as much as anyone, and one or two injuries from now, we're in real trouble. We need to be three-deep across the line.
Thankfully, there's not a single senior in the top 9 guys now (Johnson, Turner, Kieschnick, Guidry, Urbanus, Boren, Peveto, Poynter, Burley). What we can't afford to do is get into a rotation (in terms of recruiting classes), going big last year, skill this year, big in 2005, etc. We need to have a balance in every class. It sounds like we're on the right track with this class to get bigger, but we need consistent depth. David Allison sounds like a great addition. From PonyFans everywhere: WELCOME!
