Riko SmallsPlano East QB, 6-1/200/4.5 has an offer from SMU & La Tech.
had 323 rushing on 79 attempts and 2,989 yards passing on 205 completions in 366 atts with 11 picks and 33 TDs in 2007. Kid is bigger than what Rivals shows, he visited TCU last week but did not get an offer so down to these 2 schools. Good prospect. Here is what Scout Inc says about him: Smalls is a competent player as both a passer and runner and is the ideal spread offense player. He is athletic, he can create on his own and he is most effective when moving the launch point from time to time. He has adequate-to-good arm strength and throws well when off balance or on the move. Is a solid passer on the perimeter and a dual-threat to tuck and make plays with his legs. Has a lanky frame and just average height-- is in the shotgun just about every snap and this allows him to see the field better and move around to create a throwing lane. He shows good pocket quickness, can evade the rush on a comsistent basis and is a very good read-otpion player with a knack for making plays in the running game. He can be dangerous when things break down and canget himself out of trouble. Foot speed is very good for the position. Smalls is more of a street ball player at this stage and must develop as a discplined passer. Throwing mechanics can be a little rigid, but his delivery is over-the-top. May lack the power to be a consistent passing threat vertically or outside the numbers if his feet aren't set. He is accurate, but streaky because his feet are not always set and balanced. Smalls is an exciting athlete and solid passer, but he probably isn't considered great in any one area. He's raw, but has tools.
Why are you asking Stallion? Looks like HFvictory is just as good at cutting and pasting
"Plano East QB, 6-1/200/4.5 has an offer from SMU & La Tech.") Rise up, Mustang Nation!
Go SMU!
Stallion, So why is it Riko Smalls....at 6-1, 200, 4.5....has about 9 positions he can play, but you seem to question whether this Tomlin kid from Southlake....at 6-0, 200, 4.5.....can find 1 position to play? (In an earlier post, you seemed to question whether he had enough speed to play safety)
How would anyone on this board know that one kid is as fast as advertised, and another kid isn't? They've both been timed, clocked, tested, etc. .... my guess is that one report is just as valid as the other, and we have no idea whether either is valid at this point.
okay, I found this from the Dallas Nike Combine last March. I'm told the 40 times are probably 2/10 of a second slow due to the fact the way the track was set up there was a brick wall 10 feet beyond the finish line. So, Riko Smalls' 4.76 time is probably more like a 4.56...and since this was nearly a year ago, you can probably add 10 pounds to each athlete by now, maybe even an inch in height, but I think this is a good comparison of several recruits we've talked about:
By the way, Trevante Rhodes of Little Elm finished 2nd in the 4a state meet in the 100 meters with a 10.55 time and had these numbers at this combine: 4.72 40--4.13 shuttle--37.4 vertical--16 bench reps--86.28 sparq rating Derek Tomlin--6-0, 189 4.7 40--3.94 shuttle--38.5 vertical--16 bench reps--91.29 sparq rating B. J. Lee--5-4, 146 4.51 40--4.41 shuttle--38.1 vertical--14 bench reps--84.81 sparq rating Andrew Ellison--6-3, 228 4.71 40--4.31 shuttle--34.7 vertical--19 bench reps--81.88 sparq rating Cole Beasley--5-9, 154 4.62 40--4.00 shuttle--33.6 vertical--8 bench reps--74.05 sparq rating Riko Smalls--6-0, 185 4.76 40--4.22 shuttle--35.9 vertical--6 bench reps--72.50 sparq rating maybe this helps clarify things.....numbers posted at the same setting under the same conditions at Dallas Nike Combine early March last year.
jacklewis - you really are pushing Tomlin aren't you? . . . fess up, you are his . . . dad? . . . Mom? . . . Brother? . . . Uncle? . . .
![]() Sports, and all that implies.
Man, if Coach woulda put him in for the fourth quarter, he'd a won State. Derail the Frogs!
nope, just saw his combine numbers and video....and heard he de-committed from North Texas....and compared his credentials with ones we've signed or are recruiting and wondered if we might be recruiting him.
and then Stallion questioned this kid's speed and if we had a position for him to play......and then Stallion made the comment that we'd have 9 positions for Riko Smalls to play....and so I thought I'd do a little comparison and see how the two compared on a level (or unlevel) combine playing field ....and so, here are the real numbers from last year's combine.....and now we don't have to rely on hearsay....plus, I ran across a couple of our other recruits for a little comparison. I'm not sure who stacks up the best...you tell me.
We should be looking for guys who are willing to run into a brick wall!!! ![]()
