SMU understandably is a little behind in extending offers for the Class of 2009 but Rivals reports SMU's first offer to be WR DeWayne Peace from South Grand Prairie 5-11, 165. Peace apparently made a huge impression at a National high school showcase winning the WR MVP at the NationalUnderclassmen.com Ultimate 100 camp at Union New Jersey leading his team to the 7 on 7 Championship. Offers by SMU and Kansas and showing interest in OU, A&M and Tech. His emergence appears to somewhat of a surprise because he didn't have an overwhelming Junior Year with 15 catches for 285 yards 19 ypc and 3 TDs. Also had 6 KORs for 169 yards and 28.2 ypr.

IF SGP runs spread, then he is splitting time with other receivers. If they don't, his numbers could suffer b/c they are running the ball. I don't have time to look it up. Any color commentary you can find?

Yeah...he scorched through the underclassman combine event with a 4.73 40 time. This guy must be the most phenomenal route runner of all time...

I believe the SGP coach recently resigned, and one of the assistant coaches was promoted to HC. Even though the new coach came from within the existing system doesn't necessarily mean they will run the same offense. It will be interesting to see what happens with this kid and SGP this season.

Even though Peace still only has two offers-SMU and Kansas-look for much more competition since again he had another outstanding camp being named MVP of the Ft. Worth Nike camp.

Peace was upgraded to a 3 star on Scout-which seems justified by his WR MVP at one National camp and a MVP at a Texas camp-despite his lack of real big numbers during his Junior year.

Did Peace have better 40's at these subsequent camps than his original 4.6/4.7's? Evidently he's really impressing people.

Rivals lists a 4.53 and a bench of 295. Based on other reports and his size, both of these numbers may be a little inflated. Either way, he lists his top three as Kansas, OU and Tech, despite holding the SMU offer. Sounds like he's big 12 of bust at this point....

Doesn't he have a Kansas offer, not just "interest"?

New article out on Peace and apparently he is close to a decision. From Rivals:
Colorado State, SMU, Kansas and Central Florida were among the other schools that had offered Peace, but the decision will come down to one of three teams.
"It's Michigan, Kansas and Texas A&M," Peace said. "I would say Michigan (leads) because I got to talk to a lot of the players from Texas about how they deal with the cold, how they like it up there. Everybody I talked to said they loved it and the cold really doesn't play a factor because it's not that bad after you get used to it."

No one gets used to the cold. Good recruiting line though.
