Re: New Commitment-per RivalsVery nice. Is it the kid from Cali?
Re: New Commitment-per Rivalsvery impressed with the quality of the recruits - with this coaching staff it gets better every year - appears good players are looking at SMU as a viable option to play football
Re: New Commitment-per RivalsBUS,
Before you get all freaked out and start ranting about undersized linemen, I think Scout's data may be a bit old. More current sources have Wimbley at 275+ lbs., which I think is more credible since he's an All-State powerlifter in the super-heavyweight class. His lifts at the Texas state meet include: 640 squat, 425 bench and a 635 deadlift, which earned him a silver medal. Kid is a beast. "It’s hard to overstate how impressive SMU has been on the recruiting trail since the ACC announced the Mustangs would be joining the league”

Re: New Commitment-per Rivals
he had no offers other than us, you impress easily. “When I first committed to SMU, I thought it would take a couple of years of building. But with these players coming in, we should make a run. We have a lot of heavy hitters. It could get real ugly for a lot of teams we play.â€- Jalen Jones
Re: New Commitment-per RivalsI don't know, a 285 (according to some sources) junior who benches 425 is pretty impressive to me.
![]() I think the truth is that the he just hasn't been scouted yet. Of course, now that June gave him a "ship" I bet he'll have the ubiquitous 3-star rating by next week. New and improved Rivals ranking system: 5-star: Kid is really, really good. So good, you've already heard of him, so you really don't need us to tell you how good he is. 4-star: Kid is good enough that we've scouted him prior to his senior year. Not offered by UT or LSU (otherwise, we'd bump him to 5-star automatically), and not offered by SMU (otherwise we'd have to downgrade him to 3-star). 3-star: Projects as mid-major D1 recruit and/or recruit's dad has bought us lunch and shown us the YouTube video. 2-star: Kid sounds pretty good on paper, but we haven't checked out any of his games. 1-star: No longer used in general. Beat whoever it is we are playing!! @PonyGrad
Re: New Commitment-per RivalsPonyDoh - I said recruits not recruit - this recruit is very strong and probably has been overlooked due to his size - if the coaches believe he can play then that is good enough for me - why don't you go back to the basketball forum and defend the remarkable basketball program we have or have you run out of bs on that subject?
Re: New Commitment-per RivalsPonyDoh = mission to beat down JJ in hopes of making Doh look better
Honestly, the recruits JJ is getting this year almost all have BCS offers...This kid doesn't but with DT you have to take your shots sometimes...
Re: New Commitment-per RivalsI trust these coaches judgment after the traveling road show and expect anyone we offer to suddenly get looked at by others...although I'd be fine if nobody even attempted to lure any away from us. Will every kid offered pan out? Obviously not, but that will all work itself out in the long run. I have a lot of confidence in Jones and his staff. Can't say that about those who came before him.
Re: New Commitment-per RivalsIf memory serves, this coaching staff found a tall, skinny QB at Southlake Carroll who didn't have any offers, either.
Go PONIES!
Re: New Commitment-per Rivalsthe key is to find the "under the radar" guys before their senior seasons and it appears this staff does a good job of that
Re: New Commitment-per RivalsYeah, I gotta say that after watching us offer kids from our camps in the summers over the last two seasons that nobody had heard about, and seeing what they did and who they were recruited by over the course of the season, I really trust the coaching staff's evaluation process. I don't care about what their offers are right now. I am just glad we got them in a camp, liked what we saw, offered them, and they expected. After seeing Padron, JJ, DJ, etc blow up after our offers, I definately trust the coaching staff.
Re: New Commitment-per Rivals
That's unfair. I too trust the staff's ability to find talent, but don't rag on one of the dozen or so posters on here who actually have a clue. Pointing out he has no other apparent offers is fair game.
