Thanks for the updates about Anthony Rhone and the other FB commitments. I know that you have been somewhat critical of the talent of this class as a whole, but you have also pointed out the achievements of quite a few, as well.

That's awesome - there is a hell of a lot of talent in East Texas.
Congratulations, Anthony!

But June recruited him!!! There's no way a June recruit could be one of the more talented players in the region!

It's the Smoak report, they usually go on numbers not college potential. Refugio senior quarterback Travis Quintanilla was offensive player of the year and Daingerfield DL Kelshin Neal was Defensive player of the year.

Understood, high school stats don't translate to college production, but it does show potential

Yes June came out victorious over McNeese State and UL-Monroe for Rhone. Where is that statue going again?

JJ also beat out Houston, Lamar, McNeese State, SFA, Rice, TCU and UNLV -- even though none actually offered -- for Taylor Reed. That was a waste, too, huh?

JJ and his staff have shown they can find players where some others don't. Sometimes it works out, sometimes it doesn't. I'm going to believe Rhone is a player until he proves otherwise.

Fify. Most of the time it doesn't. That is why we have depth problems. Plus, the coach that recruited Reed, Coach Hundley, isn't even here anymore.

Hasn't ever worked out in terms of getting us ranked or winning us a conference title. Anthony Rhone may very well end up being a player but far more players from his class won't be and that's what is going to drag this program back to the cellar.

The repeated fallacy of this argument is that June Jones doesn't sign the BEST players whether it be Rhone or Taylor Reed-rather he settles for the best player that nobody else takes. What could he do if he had the best talent? You guys are mistaken if you fall for the belief that these guys were the best players on SMU's own big board-(if they have one). Some of these guys aren't one of the 20th best guys at their positions. June knows there are better recruits. He's basically admitted that he can't get the Top 100 guys offered by Big 12 schools. But he'll take a washed up 5 star Garrett Gilbert while he ignored him out of high school. He'll take the 4 Star RB who fell to them this year even though they didn't offer him until 10 days before signing date because they "didn't think they had a chance at him." Everybody but YOU understands this

Get real. The people who "saved" SMU athletics are the big money donors who were finally tired of trying to play D1A football with Draconian admissions policies and paying a head coach $400K. We made the financial and institutional commitment to be competitive in football. Yes hiring Jones was a part of that, but with the most supportive administration and admissions policies SMU has had since the 80's he's flatlined to mediocrity. Lets see what another coach can do under these conditions.
