Target BigsWhat bigs are we still targeting for the 2015 class? I'm sure LB sees the potential lack of length and depth in the front court next year. Who are we in the mix to potentially still sign with the remaining scholarships?
Re: Target Bigs
Simeon Carter is still a very possible option. Other than that I don't know that we are in the mix for anyone else. Back off Warchild seriously.
Re: Target Bigs
Is there really not a kid from dallas that is 6"10 and athletic enough to run? We don't need offense from them we just need defensive effort and rebounding.
Re: Target BigsWhy does the kid need to be from Dallas?
Re: Target BigsI was wondering who would be brave enough to bring up the cognitive dissonance between support for LB's recruiting success and CM's recruiting philosophy. "I think Couchem is right."

Re: Target BigsWell, they are completely different sports that require completely different recruiting models to be successful
Re: Target BigsHoop, not sure how many different ways you can say this. And I agree.
For football you need 25 kids every year who can play. Recruiting 25 kids, requires more utils. So the efficiency of recruiting quality kids locally, makes this feasible within our available resources. For basketball, you need 4 kids a year that can ball. You can recruit nationwide with less impact on resources. You don't have to cast as wide a net and don't have to sign as many kids. Would it be nice to create a DFW pipeline? Yeah But so far, most the kids we've recruited from DFW haven't panned out too well. 2009 Ponyfans Rookie of the Year
Re: Target BigsIn BB you can recruit probably 85% of the top players in the Country by taking weekend plane trips to say 3-4 major tournaments across the country. In Football I don't even think Football coaches are allowed to scout some of the regional camps

When momentum starts rolling downhill in recruiting-WATCH OUT.
Re: Target BigsYou also have the dynamic in Dallas as an example, of dealing with 200-300 high school football programs, or 2-3 basketball programs that you recruit from. Meaning basketball is more club focused than HS focused. So if you don't have a good relationship with those club coaches, likely you aren't getting their kids. Much like swimming, soccer and other club based sports. I would guess there are 30-40 or so main basketball clubs nationwide. If you have a good relationship with 6-8 of those coaches, and they help you get kids - that is all you need.
Two different worlds.
Re: Target BigsI only said dallas because you figure you could win a recruiting battle for a local tall but not major recruit.
Re: Target BigsThere aren't any national hoops powerhouses, that are small to mid privates, that recruit locally. Dallas area hoops has grown immeasurably since I started following 25 years ago, but you'd still have to grab the top 3 or 4 players every year to be a top 20 program. That's just not possible.
Re: Target BigsI understand about the difference in recruiting for basketball and football. Having said that I will hope that Coach Malagi comes back until an official announcement states otherwise, whether or not there is a big we are currently recruiting in the DFW area.
Re: Target Bigs
Again I'm not saying we need to only recruit locally, I would just imagine that if there were a kid that was 6'10 but didn't have a very developed offensive game so he was a second tier recruit ie being sought by lesser programs as the local school that is class we should be able to win him over you would think.
Re: Target BigsWith Ben Moore backsliding this year and for some reason he didn't add any bulk we must get one if not 2 bigs for next year somehow. How LB didn't get either Thomas or Davis is still baffling.
