Sooner or later we have to git er done on the field. Recruiting is all paper until the first game. Navy has not had great recruiting classes but they seem to have strung together a nice run for the past three years. Before Boise joined the WAC, they had some decent talent, but were not on anyone's recruiting radar. Now they get a second look. This is the season where Bennett can prove to the world that he is a head coach.
Actually, SMU does not have to get it done on the field sooner or later. Expect more of the same until changes are made in the athletic department. Our conference opponents are getting more talent by way of JUCO and Division 1-A transfers. Until SMU wants to lower the admission standards to the NCAA minimum and start accepting JUCO and Division 1-A credits to allow transfers to stay on course to graduate when the arrive at SMU instead of having to take over similar courses they already took, SMU will not be able to compete in Division 1-A football. Period. End of story. So do as I do: Pay your damn money, go to the games, and [deleted] about how the Commitment was the biggest lie in SMU history!
Exactly, do what the others do. Bankroll the players for a few years, then stop for a year or two, then report yourself to the NCAA, take your slap on the wrist. Repeat Just send 'da money.
hey guys -
if u want to solve the recruiting problem, get rid of the bcs-bs OR make the bcs-bs allow smu's entrance & then we're talking apples & apples, not apples & worms - as long as we're a div II school in texas (non-bcs-bs), why would any top notch kid pick us over any little-12 or any other bcs-bs school??? he needs to get his head examine if he did that, this ain't rocket science boys & girls - its like all top-notch baseball recuits selecting div 1 schools that play in omaha vs. some div II school at a regional series - face it - its sad but its now reality in the 21st century but there is no difference now since we have the bcs as the only true div I conference and then everyone else miles behind - if u want to hold anyone or any particular group responsible, let's go after the board / they are the ones that have screwed up this dept. but no one seems to give a rats [deleted] about going after the architects of this fiasco which they are - because if bennett leaves, its going to be the same for the next coach who is stupid enough to take the job - bennett is merely the scapegoat for the losers that are content with our demise - the board & the faculty senate - so u might as well get off his [deleted] b/c he can't get it done under the current cartel system (bcs-bs) & our illustrious board of idiots - if u want to get it turned around, let's all quit giving to the school & hit them where it really hurts, the pocket book - or then again, maybe its time to find another hobby fellas? BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS OF SMU FOOTBALL!!!
For some strange reason, one of the few universities that REFUSE to use their school colors: Harvard Crimson & Yale Blue.
