Agreed. But it was irrelevent. Who gives a rat's behind about UT recruiting?

I care. I want to know who is going where, when and why. I also would like to know how many, if any of these recruits came from the DFW area. It matters folks. If you do not think we should be trying to get the same players that UT is going after then you do not want this team to improve. Believe it or not, if we had not signed Dickerson, James, Ball, Dupard, all the big, great lineman from the 80s, etc. we would never have had the glory days that at least we can fondly recall. I for one want to get back to those days, and it begins wioth getting athletes that can help us.

Stallion, any info on where those kids are from?

Apparently, Mack Brown's words of wisdom at Junior Day are so effective that they work for other schools as well, landing a$m a stud running back:

Stephens commits to Texas A&M
February 26,2006
The Monitor

McALLEN — It’s unofficially official: Bradley Stephens will join the Texas A&M Aggies.

Stephens, the 5-foot-11, 192-pound record-breaker from McAllen Memorial, verbally committed to the Aggies, ironically, after a group meeting with Texas football coach Mack Brown.

"Coach (Mack) Brown was talking to a group of us at junior day," Stephens said, referring to the gathering with prospective underclassmen in Austin, "and he said you should make a decision then instead of wasting people’s time."

After thinking about Brown’s advice, Stephens settled on the Aggies.

"Really a lot of things played in to it," Stephens said. "For quite a while A&M has been the top school on my list."

Among the schools bidding for Stephens’ services were Texas, Iowa State, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Houston, Notre Dame and Michigan, to name a few. As a junior, Stephens had scholarship offers from A&M, Oklahoma State, Georgia Tech, Iowa State and Houston.

Stephens rushed for 2,622 yards in 10 games during 2005 and planned on making his verbal commitment before the 2006 football season. Though Stephens has chosen Texas A&M, the commitment won’t be binding until he signs a national letter of intent Feb. 7, 2007.

"What (Brown) said was very true," Stephens said. "A&M has been on the top of my list, and that’s really where my heart has been set to go

I care as well. Interesting info Stallion, keep it coming.

It looks to me like Strangerredblue is the miserable, lonely, bittrer one, not Stallion. What provoked your response Strangerredblue? Totally uncalled for!

that constitutes the greatest one day heist in the history of Texas College Football Recruiting History. BTW Thomas was rated No. 26 so they got 7 Top 50 Players in one day.

If you like to delve into minutiae about other teams, more power to you. I personally am only interested in facts that have a modicum of relevence to my team. Truth is, we have not sniffed UT-level recruits for nearly twenty years now. Now, this is not to say we give up: I hope the coaches go after them. But I until I, as a fan, see this level of recruit list some interest in SMU -- or hear about that interest here -- I personally could not give a rats behind how UT or Ohio State is doing in recruiting. But that's just me.

How is that a "heist"? Wouldn't that imply that they stole something? Personally, I expect half of the top kids in Texas to end up in Austin (and the other half, of course, to end up on the Hilltop! ) Honestly, I'm almost surprised they didn't get more commitments already. Then again, it doesn't much matter unless these guys are all saying "well, it was down to SMU and Texas ...." -- and I'm fairly certain that wasn't what was rolling around in their minds.

Then you must be a lonely, lonely man. There is a whole world of college football out there to be seen and studied. Only by competing with the best can we become the best. Only by studying the others can we know who is best. Of course I guess you can fill that lonliness by hating anything that Stallion posts and venting on it.

ponyboy - if it bothers you that much, don't click on this thread, much less respond. It's relevant to some people on the board...

Break out the ice cream, Satan, because I have to agree with ponyboy and disagree with mrydel on at least one point--we have no chance to recruit this caliber of player. We need to be focused on pitching the best of the second-tier (read: non-BCS) recruits. Individually they may not be sexy, but perhaps collectively they get you better in the long run.

Now having said that, I switch back to normalcy. As a college football fan, I'm always interested in who the big boys recruit, if only because it defines the level of second-tier recruits we need to be aiming for.

Lonely nothing. Who's lonelier: the guy who sits in front of the [deleted] tube watching teams representing schools he's never had even the remotest affliation with or the guy who puts down the remote and spends some time doing more important things?

Personally, I choose to only watch my teams, be it at the national, college, high school, or pee wee level. If the Cowboys aren't playing, I could not care less. Same for the Mustangs, LH Wildcats or HP Scots, etc. Life is WAY too short.

I guess if a HP Scot or LH Wildcat got recruited by UT your head would explode. Good luck in keeping out the truth from your mind while you are doing other things.

it was obvious before that you knew next to nothing about college football-thanks for confirming. How can one intelligently comment about college football and SMU's place in college football without watching it-all of it. I bet there are a lot of you who think the same which helps to explain why you are so mystified by 20 years of ineptitude.
